We don't always go looking for nature's wonders—sometimes, they choose to land in our hands. 🦋

A butterfly resting on an outstretched hand was a reminder that wonder often arrives unannounced. But beyond that fleeting encounter lies an entire world that usually escapes our notice: a signature spider weaving geometry into silk, a caterpillar carrying tomorrow's wings, and a grass mantis blending seamlessly into its surroundings with remarkable camouflage.

A bee resting on a flower may seem like a pleasant sight to pause and admire, but it is much more than that. The nectar bees collect is essential for their survival and for nourishing their larvae, making them vital contributors to the ecosystem. The bees in turn act as agents of geitonogamy and xenogamy in the plants, bringing in more flowers and more colours in the long run.

Each step across campus holds stories of survival, adaptation, and beauty hidden in plain sight. All it takes is a slower glance, a curious eye, and a moment to appreciate the tiny lives sharing our space and calling the campus of IISER Bhopal their home too. 🌿🦋🕷️🐝

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 | 𝗜𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗹

We are delighted to share that a research paper titled “𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩-𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦-𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘮𝘭𝘪 (𝘛𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢) 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘥 𝘣𝘪𝘰𝘴𝘺𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘸𝘢𝘺” from the group of Prof. Vineet K. Sharma, Department of Biological Sciences, 𝗜𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗥 𝗕𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗹 has been published in the journal Molecular Horticulture.

The study presents the high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of Tamarindus indica (known as Imli in Hindi), offering valuable insights into the evolution of triterpenes and tartaric acid biosynthetic pathways—important compounds associated with the medicinal, nutritional, and nutraceutical properties of tamarind.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵:
• First chromosome-level genome assembly of Imli (April 2025)
• Discovery of an independent whole-genome duplication event
• Provides first insights into the key genes involved in tartaric acid biosynthetic pathway
• Valuable genomic resources for future pharmaceutical and nutraceutical innovations

This research advances our understanding of plant genome evolution in the legume family and provides leads for future studies in biotechnology, functional genomics, crop improvement, and for the development of plant-based therapeutic products.
