Heuristic Word-Memory Method

Don’t memorize a word’s definition. Create connections around it.

1. Hook it → Connect it to something familiar.
2. Simplify it → Reduce the meaning to one easy idea.
3. Contextualize it → Use it in a real sentence.
4. Relate it → Find a synonym, antonym, image, or experience.
5. Visualize it → Create a mental picture.
6. Retrieve it → Close your notes and recall the meaning.
7. Use it → Speak or write your own sentence.

Example: Reproach → criticize someone out of disappointment.

👉 Word → Connection → Context → Recall → Use

The goal isn’t to memorize the word. It’s to build enough connections that your brain can reconstruct it.

Your English may be good. But does your communication make an impact?

You can have the vocabulary.
You can know the grammar.
You can have the knowledge.

Yet, if you struggle to express your thoughts with clarity, confidence and authority, people may never see the potential you carry.

That’s exactly what we’re going to change in my upcoming SPEAK WITH IMPACT webinar. 🎙️

In this highly interactive masterclass, we’ll explore how to:

✨ Structure your message so people actually follow it
✨ Use repetition strategically — without sounding repetitive
✨ Speak with specificity and credibility
✨ Master the power of pauses
✨ Use storytelling to make your message memorable
✨ Communicate with the presence of a leader

This isn’t another lecture on “how to speak English.”

It’s about learning how to make your words matter.

🎤 SPEAK WITH IMPACT
Speak with Clarity. Lead with Impact.

Why do native speakers sometimes say “SAMWICH,” “TEM BOYS,” or “THISH YEAR”? 🤔

Before you judge their English… watch a few English movies. 😄

One of my students recently asked me:

“Ma’am, why do native speakers sometimes pronounce words differently? Is that incorrect English?”

Not really.

What you’re hearing is often connected speech — when sounds naturally change or blend together as people speak fast and casually.

For example:

🥪 Sandwich → “Samwich”
The /d/ often gets dropped or becomes very soft in quick speech.

👦 Ten boys → “Tem boys”
The /n/ can shift toward /m/ because of the following /b/ sound.

📅 This year → “Thish year”
The /s/ sound can be influenced by the /y/ sound, making it sound closer to “sh.”

These aren’t mistakes. They’re just how real, natural English sounds in everyday conversation.

And this is exactly why learning English only from textbooks isn’t enough.

If you want to sound more natural, you need to understand how English is actually spoken, not just how it’s written.

🎬 Watch English movies
🎧 Listen carefully
🗣️ Notice connected speech
💬 Then try using it yourself

English is not always pronounced the way it is written.

Once you understand this, native speakers become much easier to follow.

Did you notice this before? Which one surprised you most — “samwich,” “tem boys,” or “thish year”?
