A function can be explicit or implicit:

Explicit: "y = some function of x". When we know x we can calculate y directly.

Implicit: "some function of y and x equals something else". Knowing x does not lead directly to y.

Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that studies relationships between side lengths and angles of triangles. The Greeks focused on the calculation of chords, while mathematicians in India created the earliest-known tables of values for trigonometric ratios (also called trigonometric functions) such as sine, cosine.



Trigonometric ratios are the ratios between edges of a right triangle. These ratios are given by the following trigonometric functions of the known angle A, where a, b and c refer to the lengths of the sides in the accompanying figure:

MEASUREMENT OF ANGLES

There are 3 systems used for the measurement of angles.

Sexagesimal system(British):

Here a right angle is divided into 90 equal parts known as degrees. Each degree is divided into 60 equal parts called minutes and each minute is further divided into 60 equal parts called seconds.

60 seconds (or 60”) = 1 minute (or 1’)
60 minutes (or 60) = 1 degree (or 1°)
90 degrees (or 90°) = 1 right angle

centagesimal system(francis):
A more common way to measure angles is in degrees. There are 360 degrees in one revolution. Degrees can be subdivided, too. One degree is equal to 60 minutes, and one minute is equal to 60 seconds. Therefore, an angle whose measure is one second has a measure of  degrees. When perpendicularity is discussed, it is most often defined as a situation in which a 90-degree angle exists. Often degrees are used to describe certain triangles, like 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. As previously mentioned, however, in most cases that concern trigonometry, radians are the most useful and manageable unit of measure. Degrees are symbolized with a small superscript circle after the number (measure). 360 degrees is symbolized 360o.
