On September 20, 1878, The Hindu was founded in Madras by the Triplicane Six - four law students and two teachers.
During a time when newspapers were powerful instruments for protesting the discriminatory policies of the British Raj, The Hindu emerged as a voice of reason and justice.
The newspaper has been a pioneer in many things, such as being the first newspaper to introduce colour print (1940), the first newspaper to own airplanes to distribute newspapers (1963), and in 1995 The Hindu became the first newspaper in India to have a website.
Initially a weekly newspaper, it evolved into the daily source of information we know today.

Over three decades later, Voyager 1 made history again as the first human-made object to reach interstellar space.
