Anamika Rajesh and Ritika Singh Katoch, B.Tech. final-year students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science and Artificial Intelligence), IIT Bhilai, have been awarded the Best Paper Award at the 30th International Symposium on VLSI Design and Test (VDAT 2026). Their award-winning paper, titled “Machine Learning Surrogate Framework for Trap-Dependent Characterization of 5 nm Nanosheet Gate-All-Around FETs,” was carried out as part of their Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Project (IDP) under the guidance of Dr. Nitanshu Chauhan, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, IIT Bhilai. The work explores machine learning-based surrogate modeling for the characterization of advanced nanosheet GAA FETs. This recognition highlights the interdisciplinary research efforts and technical contributions of IIT Bhilai students in the field of next-generation semiconductor technologies. Congratulations to Anamika, Ritika, and Dr. Nitanshu Chauhan on this remarkable achievement!

The SETU Wellness Club at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai observed World Su***de Prevention Day as part of a month-long initiative dedicated to promoting mental wellbeing, awareness, empathy, and a culture of support within the institute community.

As part of the initiative, SETU organized a Poster and Slogan Writing Competition, providing students with a creative platform to express their thoughts on mental health, emotional wellbeing, su***de prevention, and the importance of standing by those who may be going through difficult times. The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation and reflected the students’ understanding of the importance of creating a compassionate and supportive campus environment.

The institute Horticulture Committee held a tree plantation drive in campus from Friday, 11 September 2026 to Sunday, 13 September 2026. A total of 600 saplings of 49 species have been planted across the academic, hostel, and residential zones of the campus. The drive focussed on plantation of native and indigenous species of Chhattisgarh, and witnessed participation from students, staff, and faculty of the institute as well as family members of staff and faculty.

Technical expertise for species and site selection for the drive was provided by Prof G.L. Sharma, Head, Dept. of Fruit Sciences, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Dr Manjeet Bal, State Head, Foundation for Ecological Security (Chhattisgarh), and Shri Vaibhav Kant Sahu, Partner, Infochange Development Consultancy LLP.

Dr Anubhav Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts was invited as a resource person for a Short Term Training Program (STTP) titled "Exploring New Frontiers in English Research" organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, NIT Raipur from 7 to 11 September 2026. The workshop was held virtually, and saw participation from early career scholars from across the country. The title of Dr Pradhan's session in the workshop was "Literary Urban Studies in South Asia: An Overview", wherein he familiarised the participants with the theoretical contours the this emergent domain and answered their queries on the practicalities of conducting research in the same.

Researchers Sudipta Paul, Priyank Sinha, Amul Jain, and Dr. Sanjib Banerjee at IIT Bhilai have developed a multifunctional boronic acid-functionalized supramolecular hydrogel that combines shape-memory actuation, smart responsiveness, and pollutant removal. The UV-curable material demonstrates potential for future 4D-printable smart devices, while its shape-changing capability enables soft actuation and its functional network facilitates the removal of organic dyes and toxic Pb²⁺ ions from water, offering a promising platform for next-generation smart materials and environmental remediation.
