Heartiest congratulations to Ms. Tanu Prasad, PhD Scholar, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bhilai, on receiving the IEEE IAS Student Travel Award 2026 at the IEEE SeFeT 2026 conference held at VNIT Nagpur.

She presented her research on sustainable hydrogen production using grid-connected PV–Battery–Electrolyser systems for data centers under the guidance of Dr. Shailendra Kumar, with Dr. Shashank Kurm as co-author.

A research team from IIT Bhilai, in collaboration with IIT Patna, led by Dr. Sanjib Banerjee and comprising Nishikanta Singh, Swarup Maity, Soumen Ghosh, and Subrata Chattopadhyay, has developed a smart multifunctional polymer coating that protects metal
surfaces from corrosion while also improving fire safety. The coating combines corrosion resistance, strong adhesion, adaptive surface properties, and flame retardancy within a single material, offering a durable and cost-effective solution for infrastructure, transportation, marine engineering, and energy-related applications.

Kartikeya Saraswat, a doctoral scholar, in the department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai, recently presented a paper titled "X-VPoP: Explainable Short Video Popularity Prediction Using Video Transformers and VLMs" in the ICDAR Workshop.
Held in conjunction with ICMR 2026, the conference was organised in the KIT Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam, Netherlands. ICMR is considered one of the most reputable conferences in the domain of Multimedia Research spanning multimodal content understanding, search paradigms, and deep learning methodologies. Kartikeya's paper investigates the engagement dynamics of short-form social media content and introduces a novel methodology for fine-tuning Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to predict audience engagement. He works under the supervision of Dr. Soumajit Pramanik and his research interests include: Social Media Analytics, Video Understanding, Computer Vision, and Generative AI.
