School History
2001-2002:
Nethra Vidyalaya school for visually challenged started in the year 2001 on 20th june in Prema Samajam, Phool Bagh Colony, Vizianagaram.
School was previously run by Inner Wheel Rotary Club with 18 students from class 1st to 4th class, they handed over the school to Sri Sri Sri Tridandi chinna Srimannarayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamiji for efficient working. School was named as Nethra Vidyalaya, under the aegis of Jeeyar Educational Trust(JET).
Admission in school is based on age and blindness, children in age group of 5 to 15 with above 40% blindness can be admitted in our school.
Every thing is free in our school for students, they are provided with food accommodation, uniforms, books, study materials etc.
2002-2003:
In 2002 school building was constructed with all amenities.
Started music classes and vocational training like candle making, wire bag knitting etc.
2003-2004:
Hostel building was constructed for students. Computer training classes were started for students. Leaf plate making was included in vocational training.
Students bagged prizes in, JCI(junior chamber international) sports competitions and music competitions as well.
2004-2005:
Nethra students participated in JCI special mini Olympics in Visakhapatnam and Nalgonda sports meet and secured highest number of prizes in both events.
Machinery for making leaf plates and leaf bowls were installed in the school.
2005-2006:
Students participated in competitions conducted by Devnar school Hyderabad.
Teachers explain lessons with the help of teaching aids.
2006-2007:
On 12th, 13th of November 2006 our school hosted sports meet for visually challenged in Vizianagaram , schools from 13 districts participated in the event, all the students were provided with accomidation,transport and food. It is the first of this kind of events named as Spurthy.
14th November prizes were distributed to the winners, in juniors category we won both girls and boys events. In seniors we won boys events, so our school won all round champion ship.
First batch of 10th class appeared for exams and it was 100% pass.
2007-2008:
Conducted medical camp on july 25th 2007 after eye check-up 6 students were diagnosed to get eye sight and they were operated. Baskar, Nagarjuna Reddy, Ravi, Srinu got their sight.
Our students participated in Kabaddi, cricket, and music competitions conducted by Rotary club and secured highest number of prizes.
2008-2009:
Baskar from our school secured first place in state level sub-junior chess competition.
Sandya Rani and Murali participated in state level Bagvathgeeta competititon conducted by JET.
Students of Nethra Vidyalaya do yoga daily for good health and memory.
Environmental protection awareness in our children.
2009-2010:
Like every year we went on walkathon on world disabled day.
On the occasion of Geeta jayanthi our students gave performance of Krishna Leela in NTR grounds Hyderabad.
2010-2011:
In Visakhapatnam Ram Bhakthatarangini programme our students performed Ramayana dance balley.
Parmesh from our school participated in n different music competitions like Black of Etv and Rela Re Rela of MAA tv etc and secured first place.
2011-2012:
Government of A.P. conducted state level sports meet in December 2011, our students won many prizes.
In February & march 2012 national sports meet was conducted by National Association for the Blind, India(NAB), Mumbai 78 schools from 17 states participated, our students Krishna veni, Prasad, Rama Krishna, Jagan, T. Prasad, Ganesh won national prizes,in all we got 6-gold,2-silver, 1-bronze,1- best male and was awarded best school for their behaviour, attitude and discipline of doing prayer before meals etc.
2012-2013:
Government of A.P. conducted sports meet in Hyderabad.
1. Krishna Veni got first place in 100mts running.
2. T. Prasad got first place in 100mts running.
3. T.Prasad got shot-put second place.
Chief minister Sriman Kiran Kumar Reddy appreciated our children for their remarkable performance in NAB.
2013-2014:
In june 2013 Nethra Vidyalaya shifted from vizianagaram to
Visakhapatnam Varija Ashramam into a sophisticated infrastructure with all amenities. Building was inaugurated by Sri Sri Sri chinna Jeeyar Swamiji on January 25th .
In vocational classes, new varieties of items were included like friendship bands, door curtains, greeting cards and many more decorative pieces.
Parmesh of our school got first place in Padutha Theyaga Etv program.

JCI Special Olympics in Visakhapatnam
JCI conducted Special Olympics for differently able children (port stadium)
Medals List:
Running race: Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for both boys and girls category.
Tug of war: Gold for boys’ team and silver for girls’ team.
Musical chairs: Silver Medal in girls’ category
October 3rd 2014
1st Vizag Navy Marathon, Naval Battery, Visakhapatnam
Vizag Navy conducted Marathon on October 3rd.
12 students participated in the SANKALP RUN and secured medals and certificates for the completion.
November 14th 2014
Science Exhibition, Nethra Vidyalaya, Mangamaripeta
SCIENCE EXHIBITION was conducted on Children’s Day. Our students participated with more enthusiasm and exhibited 15 projects. Students and Staff from different schools & colleges attended and appreciated their talent.

District Level Chess Competition, Visakhapatnam
HEART CHESS ACADEMY organized chess competitions for both open and V.I Categories. Our student PALLA GANESH secured 1st prize in V.I Category and 9th place in open category.

Mother Chess Academy organized open CHESS competition. Our student PALLA GANESH secured 4th Place.

District Level Sports Meet, AU Football grounds, Visakhaptnam.
In the observation of World Disabled Day on December 3rd, Andhra Pradesh State Government conducted SPORTS MEET in all the districts. In Visakhapatnam, it was held on 24th November. Our students took part in the events (Running Race, Shot-put and chess) conducted for V.I and have excelled in all the events. In all the events we secured 6 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 9 third prizes.
All the toppers got chance to participate in State level Sports meet at Guntur.

32nd State level open KUNGFU Competition, Cherala, Andhra Pradesh
12 students of Nethra Vidyalaya won 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in state level open KUNGFU Competition held at Cherala, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh.
December 1st 2014
State Level Sports Meet, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
On December 1st 2014, “STATE LEVEL SPORTS MEET” was organized by Government of Andhra Pradesh for differently able children at Acharya Nagarjuna University. Three students of Nethra Vidyalaya, Vizag, being the district champions, they participated in STATE LEVEL 100 mts running race & secured Two Gold medals in totally blind category.

Gantasala Jayanthi Utsav, Vizianagaram
Gantasala Smaraka Academy Vizianagaram organized Nirvirama Sangeetha Vibhavari (10 A.M. to 10 P.M.) on 92nd birthday of Sri Gantasala Venkateswara Rao. Our Students Chy. M. Shyam Kumar & K. Bala Ram took part in the unique event. The organizers felicitated the upcoming singers and awarded cash prizes

Cricket Selections, Hindupur
On Jan 2nd STATE LEVEL CRICKET SELECTIONS were conducted. Two students and teacher from Nethra Vidyalaya went for the selections. Out of 90 players, our student L. RAM PRASAD and Braille teacher Mr. B. BASKAR got selected in the 33 squad.

Cricket Tournament, Hyderabad
On Jan 10th State level Cricket Tournament was conducted in Hyderabad for state level players. Our Students team won “Samanvai Challengers Cup 2015”.
January 11th 2015
State Level Essay writing competition, Vijayawada
Aarsha Bharathi Vikasa Parishad conducted state level Essay writing competition on January 11th 2015 about Swami Vivekananda’s life history. Our students Chy. N.Vara Lakshmi, Chy. T. Santosh, Chy. S. AdiBabu, Chy. D. Surya participated and bagged cash prizes.

National level Cricket Tournament, Mumbai
Our Student G. Surya Narayana who studied here from 2005-10 got selected for Andhra Pradesh Cricket team as Vice Captain. He played for National Level Tournament at Mumbai and he took 12 wickets in the tournament. He dedicated his trophy to NETHRA VIDYALAYA as a token of love & respect.

Vishaka Utsav, Vuda Park, Visakhaptnam
Our students participated in Visakha Utsav 2015 on 25th January. They performed a folk dance giving message to save trees and protect environment. Audience gave big applause for their fabulous performance. Our students were given prizes and certificates for participation and a memento for our school.

Helping AIDS Distribution Programme
Government of India arranged a program for differently able and distributed helping aids for children. Union Minister Venkayya Naidu Garu, Gehlot Garu, State Minister Ganta Srinivas Garu, M.P. Hari Babu Garu, M.P Avanthi Srinivas Garu, NIVH, NIMH etc., attended the program. Our students sang welcome song in the programme.

Film star Suman Visit, Nethra Vidyalaya
Film Star Suman visited Nethra Vidyalaya and saw our students performance of Martial Arts. He appreciated students and the Kingfu teacher. He gave message for all students to learn Martial Arts for self defence.
APRIL 2015
CIRCKET NATIONALS & SURDASJIS BIRTHDAY
We are very happy to share that two students B. Baskar and G. Suryanarayana from our school played in the T20 tournament for south Zone. Out of 8 states our A.P. team won the trophy. Our players done a splendid job in both bowling and batting categories. This team is going to play with all the Zones in Indian Trophy on April 29th.

We celebrated Surdasji’s birthday on 23rd April at our school campus. Surdasji is a famous Hindi poet, scholar and a great devotee of Lord Krishna. He is a gifted (blind) child for his parents.
