🌹History of HATHI KHANA MSJID🌹
Prior to the Indian independence, the Maharaja of Bettiah had made shelters for his elephants and camels in a very large area on the northern side of Baswariya locality and the eastern side of Bada Ramna Maidan locality of Bettiah, and there was the residence for mahouts also. There was a Muslim caretaker to supervise them and most of the mahouts were Muslims who resided there. Upon the request of these people, the Maharaja had earmarked an area for Namaz, where Muslim workers used to perform Namaz five times daily. After few days, a formal mosque structure was built there and Namaz was being performed five times daily on regular basis. Over the time, after the downfall of Bettiah kingdom, the issues like mosque’s maintenance and its Imam’s salary arose. At that time, people made weather-tiles based hostel in the adjacent area which was given on rent to students obtaining modern education. With the rent earned this way, somehow the expenses of the mosque were met, but due to the absence of Muslim population, the mosque kept on becoming desolated.
In recent times, the zealous and self-motivated young people of the locality and the city started to think of its reconstruction and to populate the site once again. In this regard, the prominent Islamic scholar and thinker, Hazrat Maulana Syed Shah Mohammad Wali Rahmani, Sajjada Nashin Khanqah Rahmani Munger and the present Ameer-e-Shariat, Bihar, Orissa & Jharkhand was contacted and upon his advice, the foundation of the institution “Jamia Rahmania” was laid by himself on 11th May 2005. Upon establishment, Hazrat Sahab was declared as the first lifetime Patron of the institution. Alhamdulillah, Jamia Rahmania is prospering towards success and more than two hundred poor and underprivileged students are residing and getting education in the institution. The institution is blessed to have the services of educated and talented teachers at its disposal for education and training of the students.
