Student seminar presentation by PG final year students.

After a long gap we have started Departmental weekly seminar session .Today Mahana present a talk on Encountering the " other" and the Anthropology trouble. Here he discussed how the term tribe added into the ethnographic research and ethical dimensions that anthropologist should follow when studying others. He also emphasized on the Deep Ethnography incorporating both thick decripation and ethical principles.

Today we welcomed our newly recruited lecturers in our department. On this occasion Dr. Pabitra Mohan Nanda (Controller of Examination, Khallikote University), Smt. Rajashree Mohapatra (Head, Dept of Anthropology), Sri. Mahendra Berhera welcomed Dr. Rajakishor Mahana, Miss. Prangya Sahoo. with august presence of Ms. Sarojinee Sahoo, Mr. Ratnakar Palei, Mr. Nituranjan Dash, Shri Anadi Berhera and Shri Jayaram Rao.

Anthropology is an empirical science. It's the exploration what makes us unique and different from other social science studies. An ethnographer may visit to an unexplored area to understand people & their culture. Today Ms. Banita Behera was invited to deliver an ethnographic account on the community living in the Himalayan belt. During the lecture we got to know about the ethnic identity of Brokpa community, livelihood, economy, their life sustaining strategies in the high altitude.

A seminar was conducted at our dept where Dr Piyush Ranjan sahoo delivered a lecture on "Application of Research methodology in different fieldwork situation in anthropological study among the tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Island.
