We were all born picture thinkers till we started going through formal schooling. Most of us make that switch to word thinking/verbal thinking, as we learn our letters and numbers. Some of the gifted ones remain picture thinkers and see everything in 3 dimension. Isn’t that an exciting way to look at things. Unfortunately it is not so helpful when learning letters and numbers.

What happens if the child is not good at maths? Is the child dumb? Is she/he a failure? Is there no future for the child?
We think that doing well in math is not the end of the world. Some of the parents may differ. At the least all the parents should realise that math scores is not the best barometer to assess the intelligence in children.

Have you ever wondered why Finland has the best education system in the world and the Finish kids are number one in every aspect? You will be surprised at the reasons: (1) No Homework (this is considered as obsolete) (2) Encourage children to relax their brain activity and encourage family time (3) Limited school hours. Primary school - 20 hrs a week, including lunch hour (4) No standardised testing (5) Educators emphasising the importance of happiness in students.
Simple yet very effective. How can we learn from them instead of reinventing the wheel. Hope our new NEP will be able to address these simple things. The onus is on the parents and the educators.

Schools closed, children at home, online classes, parents working from home, routine has gone for a toss resulting in high stress levels within families.
Some children are busy with smart phones, television, video games, etc. Parents with young children at home will have to be extra cautious about the harmful effects of screen time. This will lead into "digital addiction" This will cause more harm to the child and overall health of the family.
