𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗻𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗡. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗿, Professor & Unit Head, General Medicine, JNMC Belagavi and Senior Consultant, KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC, Belagavi, was invited as a 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 at 𝗛𝗜𝗩𝗲 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘂 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – the 11th Annual Update on HIV, TB & Infectious Diseases, held in Mysuru on 15–16 August 2026.

The academic forum brought together eminent clinicians, infectious disease specialists and healthcare professionals to discuss evolving perspectives and advances in HIV, TB and infectious disease care.

Dr. Morkar shared his 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, exchanged insights on emerging concepts in HIV medicine, and engaged in meaningful academic discussions with experts from across the region.

𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡-𝗜𝗜𝗜 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲-𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 | 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲

WHO ACTION-III was a WHO-sponsored, multi-country, multi-centre, three-arm, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial assessing two antenatal corticosteroid regimens versus placebo for women at high probability of late-preterm birth (34+0–36+5 weeks), to improve newborn outcomes. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, it involved 24 hospitals in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan.

Recruitment concluded on 4 June 2026: 15,400 women globally. India was the highest-recruiting site with 3,292 women across five hospitals: KLES Hospital, Belagavi (587); KMCRI, Hubballi (1,488); PGIMER & Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar (475); WC Hospital affiliated to JJM Medical College, Davangere (503); RIMS, Raichur (239).

The close-out ceremony was held on 11 August 2026 at KMCRI, Hubballi, with WHO, ICMR, Government of Karnataka, FOGSI and Indian Academy of Pediatrics representatives, investigators, coordinators and research officers.

We are pleased to share that 𝗗𝗿. We are proud to share that 𝗗𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶 𝗦 𝗛𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗲, Professor, Department of ENT (Otorhinolaryngology), JNMC, Belagavi, was selected among five surgeons from India for the International Cochlear Implant & Bone Conduction Implant Workshop and Surgical Training Course in Sydney, Australia, held from 29 June–3 July 2026, organized by Cochlear Limited.

The programme included advanced cochlear implant surgery, temporal bone dissection, hearing preservation and OSIA bone conduction implant training, with valuable interactions with renowned experts Dr Tim McLean and Dr Melville De Cruz.

Dr Hajare also visited the Australian Hearing Hub, Shepherd Center, Cochlear device manufacturing facility and anechoic chamber, gaining insights into the complete hearing healthcare ecosystem.

✨ This international training will further strengthen the Cochlear Implant Program at KLE Hospital, Belagavi, advancing patient care, surgical expertise, rehabilitation, teaching and research.

𝗝𝗡𝗠𝗖 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 & 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁, 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘃𝗶, was strongly represented by Dr Shivaprasad Goudar, Dr Mrityunjay Metgud, Dr Manjunath Somannavar, Dr Ramachandra Bhat and Dr Avinash Kavi, alongside collaborators Dr Richard Derman, Dr Rupsa Boelig and Dr Simal Thind from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.

🔬 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀

🔹 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹: Primary results from the JNMC–TJU led Prevention of Iron Deficiency Anemia Post-delivery (PRIORITY) Trial were presented by Dr M. C. Metgud. The GN08 team also proposed several secondary analyses, with contributions from Dr Manjunath Somannavar, Dr Avinash Kavi and Dr Simal Thind.

🔹 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹: Dr Ramachandra Bhat led training on the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) for the GN’s CHIME Trial, in collaboration with investigators from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and the University of North Carolina.

🔹 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Dr Shivaprasad Goudar, Co-Chair of the GN Publications Subcommittee with Dr Waldemar Carlo, proposed a journal supplement highlighting the Global Network’s major contributions over the past 15 years and creating opportunities for young investigators to publish research based on the MNH Registry and recently completed studies.

🔹 𝗢𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: Updates on the ABLE and CHIME Trials were presented, with the GN08 team discussing challenges and mitigation strategies.

🔹 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: New proposals and research priorities were discussed to strengthen the Global Network’s future contributions to maternal and newborn health.

The meeting served as a powerful 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲, fostering collaborative research and sustainable solutions to improve maternal and newborn health, particularly in resource-limited settings worldwide.

🎙️ 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗮 𝗔. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱 delivered an insightful health talk highlighting the importance of breastfeeding in ensuring optimal infant nutrition, improving maternal health, strengthening the mother–baby bond, and supporting the healthy growth and development of every newborn.

💙 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗵𝗮 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗿, Postgraduate, Department of Community Medicine, spoke on this year's theme, "𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀," emphasizing the crucial role of families, communities, workplaces, and healthcare providers in supporting breastfeeding mothers.

👏 The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the UHC staff and Postgraduate students of the Department of Community Medicine, benefiting 𝟲𝟴 participants through meaningful health education and awareness.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗮 𝗠. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗱, 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻, 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗞𝗔𝗛𝗘𝗥, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿, 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗝𝗡 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲, participated in the DBT–Wellcome Trust India Alliance Annual Conclave 2026: "Milestones and Momentum", held in New Delhi from 15–17 July 2026.

As Co-Principal Investigator of the LEAD Study, Dr. Bellad presented the mid-term review poster, showcasing the study's progress and key milestones. The conclave provided an excellent opportunity for meaningful scientific discussions with reviewers, researchers, representatives of international funding agencies, and philanthropic organizations, while receiving valuable feedback to guide the next phase of the LEAD Study.

The annual conclave served as a vibrant platform for scientific exchange, fostering collaboration and strengthening partnerships in advancing impactful global health research.
