Some facts related to history.
The study of past is called history.
The English word history is derived from Greece word historia meaning inquiry research and investigation. Thus the knowledge acquired by investigation is called history.
The Greece historian Herodotus was the first real historian of the world and he is known as the father of history.
German historian Leopold von Ronke is known as the father of modern history.
German philosopher Hegel once said," History repeats itself." Lator on German philosopher and economist Karl Marx extended the line," History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.
According to British historian E.H.Carr:History is an unending dialogue between present and past.
Historical Sources-
The Sources that give information about the events of past time are known as historical sources.
There are two types of historical sources-Literary Sources and Archaeological Sources. With the comparisons of Literary Sources Archaeological Sources are believed more reliable, because it is almost impossible to change in it.
Literary Sources are divided into two categories- Indigenous Sources and Foreign Sources.
Indigenous Sources are divided into two categories - Religious texts and Secular texts. Under religious texts Brahmanic( Hindu) Texts, Buddhist texts, Jain texts etc are included. Under Secular texts historical texts, semi historical texts, biographical texts etc are included.
