Celebrating the Richness of Punjabi—World Punjabi Day at DSSPS Kararwala

At Doon Senior Secondary Public School, Kararwala, World Punjabi Day was celebrated with warmth, pride, and a beautiful connection between generations.

Adding a special touch to the celebration, two grandparents were invited to spend time with our students and share their cherished Punjabi folk tales, anecdotes, and memories. Their stories brought alive the simplicity of village life, Punjabi traditions, family values, and the wisdom that passes from one generation to another. Through their words, our children discovered that language is not merely learned from books—it is also inherited through stories, conversations, and lived experiences.

Tushpinder Ma’am took the students on a journey through Punjabi literature, introducing them to the richness of Punjabi writing and the voices that have shaped it. The students were acquainted with literary icons such as Amrita Pritam, Shiv Kumar Batalvi, Waris Shah and Bhai Vir Singh while reflecting on the enduring beauty of Punjabi poetry and prose.

The celebration also drew attention to the significance of Firoz Din Sharaf and his celebrated expression of love for Punjabi and Punjab, reminding students that a mother tongue carries within it the history, emotions and identity of its people.

The grandparents also beautifully connected the Punjabi alphabet with life values—ੳ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ, ਅ ਤੋਂ ਆਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਇ ਤੋਂ ਇਮਾਨਦਾਰੀ—encouraging children to carry enthusiasm, respect and honesty into their everyday lives.

The celebration was not merely about speaking Punjabi; it was about experiencing Punjabi—through stories, literature, memories, values and the warmth of generations.

Our Principal, Mrs. Meenakshi Chaudhary, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the grandparents for sharing their time and wisdom with the students and honored them with mementos. She encouraged the children to remain connected with their mother tongue and become active participants in preserving and promoting Punjabi.

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸੰਭਾਲਣਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਹੈ।
