🧘‍♀️ CU Punjab Celebrates 12th International Day of Yoga

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga with a mass yoga session organized by the Department of Physical Education under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari led the celebrations and encouraged students and young people to make yoga a part of their daily lives for better physical health, mental well-being, and self-discipline. Nearly 150 participants, including students, faculty members, staff, and students from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, took part in the event.

The programme featured the practice of the Common Yoga Protocol prescribed by the Ministry of Ayush, including Yogasanas, Kapalabhati, Pranayama, and Meditation.

Together, let's embrace yoga for a healthier, balanced, and more mindful future.

📚 Vice-Chancellor Inspires Newly Appointed Faculty Members at Central University of Punjab

"A great teacher does not simply educate; they inspire, empower, and transform lives."

With these inspiring words, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari interacted with the 35 newly appointed faculty members who have recently joined various departments of the Central University of Punjab, welcoming them to a journey of academic excellence, innovation, and nation-building.

Welcoming the faculty members to the CUP family, Prof. Tiwari emphasized that today's classrooms are home to learners with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and aspirations. He encouraged the faculty to adopt inclusive teaching practices and create learning environments where every student feels valued and empowered.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the faculty members to remain lifelong learners themselves, highlighting that teaching and learning are inseparable processes. He stressed the importance of continuous self-improvement, innovation in pedagogy, meaningful research, and a commitment to excellence in all academic pursuits.

Prof. Tiwari also reminded the faculty that universities have a larger responsibility—to nurture responsible citizens, preserve cultural values, and contribute to the nation's development through knowledge creation and dissemination.

Following the Vice-Chancellor's welcome address, Prof. R. K. Wusirika, Dean In-charge Academics, introduced the newly joined faculty members to the University's academic system and highlighted the growing competition among newly established universities.

Prof. Raj Kumar Sharma, In-charge Director, Research & Development, informed the faculty about the Research Seed Money (RSM) scheme, faculty awards, and procedures for securing extramural research grants.

Dr. Vijay Sharma, Registrar, Dr. B. P. Garg, Controller of Examinations, and Dr. Raj Kumar Sharma, Finance Officer, briefed the faculty on administrative procedures, examination systems, and finance-related matters. Mr. Mukesh, Deputy Registrar (Establishment), discussed service-related matters, including leave provisions, file processing procedures, and promotion policies.

Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, Dean Students' Welfare, welcomed the faculty members and shared information about the grievance redressal system and student activities, emphasizing the crucial role of teachers in students' holistic development.

Prof. Anil Mantha, In-charge, Store & Purchase Section, along with Mr. Ranbir, Assistant Registrar (Store & Purchase), presented the University's procurement procedures and advised faculty members to submit complete documentation to facilitate timely processing of purchase-related files.

Dr. Amandeep Singh, SAMARTH Coordinator, provided an overview of the SAMARTH portal and its various applications in university administration.

Towards the end of the programme, Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director, IQAC, shared the University's best practices and encouraged the newly appointed faculty members to contribute actively towards taking the Central University of Punjab to greater heights.

The interaction served as an inspiring beginning for the newly appointed faculty members, motivating them to uphold the ideals of scholarship, integrity, and service while shaping the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

CU Punjab Celebrates World Environment Day 2026 with ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Plantation Drive

The Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 with great enthusiasm by organizing a plantation drive under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future” and the nationwide campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” The programme was jointly organized by the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology in collaboration with the NSS Cell, CUPB near the New Library on the university campus.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, who planted tree saplings and called upon students and staff to actively contribute towards environmental conservation and sustainable development. Emphasizing the importance of trees in combating climate change and preserving ecological balance, Prof. Tiwari encouraged everyone to adopt environmentally responsible practices and participate in afforestation initiatives.
On this occasion, Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma, Finance Officer Dr. Rajkumar Sharma, Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Anil Mantha, Incharge (Stores & Purchase), and Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Incharge Librarian, were present. Faculty members from the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology, including Prof. V.K. Garg, Prof. Sunil Mittal, Prof. P.K. Sahoo, and Dr. Dhanya M.S., also participated in the plantation drive along with university officers, staff members, and NSS volunteers.
Shri Bipin Tripathi from Horticulture Wing of university informed that as part of the drive, a variety of saplings, including Triveni, Sukhchain, Terminalia (Arjun), and hedge plants, were planted across the campus to enhance its green cover and promote environmental sustainability.
The participants pledged to nurture the planted saplings and contribute towards building a greener and healthier future. The programme concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen conservation efforts and support sustainable practices in line with the objectives of World Environment Day and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.

🎓 Empowering Youth Through Skill-Based Education at CU Punjab

The Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab), Bathinda, has commenced classes for its NCVET-approved Skill Development Programmes under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), marking another significant step towards enhancing employability and promoting self-reliance among youth.

On the first day of classes, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari interacted with students enrolled in the programmes and emphasized the importance of complementing academic learning with practical, industry-relevant skills. He encouraged students to make the most of the training opportunities available and develop competencies that can enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential in an increasingly competitive job market.

Prof. Tiwari reiterated the University's commitment to empowering youth through quality skill education and creating pathways for employment, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning. He noted that the programmes have been designed in accordance with national skill standards and industry requirements to ensure that learners are equipped with relevant and market-oriented skills.

The newly launched programmes include:

🔹 Biomedical Waste Management for Nursing and Paramedical Staff

Students from Bathinda and neighbouring regions have enthusiastically enrolled in these courses and shared their aspirations and expectations during the interaction session. Appreciating their enthusiasm, the Vice-Chancellor assured them of the University's continued support in providing quality training, practical exposure, and opportunities for career advancement.

Registrar Dr. Vijay Sharma highlighted that these programmes are specifically designed to bridge the gap between education and employment through hands-on training and industry-relevant learning. He expressed confidence that the courses would significantly enhance the employability of youth, particularly those from rural and semi-urban areas.

Notably, CU Punjab has been granted the status of “Deemed Awarding Body – Dual Status” by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), enabling the University to conduct skill training programmes, undertake assessments, and award nationally recognized certificates.

Through these initiatives, CU Punjab continues to contribute meaningfully to the national vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat by nurturing a skilled, capable, and future-ready workforce.

🌍🔬 A proud moment for the Central University of Punjab!

CU Punjab has joined a prestigious international research consortium to develop a novel therapy for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), one of the most aggressive forms of blood cancer.

Funded under the Health Holland International Kickstarter Call for Public-Private Partnerships 2025, the project brings together leading global partners including BIMINI Biotech BV, the Institute of Oncology Research (Switzerland), and CU Punjab's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products, represented by Prof. Raj Kumar.

With a budget of €440,000, the project aims to develop innovative drug candidates targeting the Wiskott–Aldrich Syndrome Protein (WASp), offering new hope for AML patients, particularly those with relapsed or treatment-resistant disease.

This international collaboration reflects CU Punjab's growing global research footprint and commitment to impactful cancer drug discovery, healthcare innovation, and scientific excellence.

🔹 CU Punjab Hosts Industry-Academia Dialogue to Foster Research, Innovation and Regional Development 🔹

The Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, organized an interaction session with representatives of Laghu Udyog Bharti, Bathinda, and the Rice Millers Association, Bathinda, to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing industrial challenges through research, innovation, and technology-driven solutions.

During the meeting, industry representatives felicitated Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari and expressed their appreciation for the establishment of the NABL-accredited Food Testing Laboratory at CU Punjab. They acknowledged the laboratory's potential to strengthen quality assurance and testing services for the food processing sector and other local industries.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Tiwari emphasized the importance of robust industry-academia partnerships in translating scientific research into practical solutions for societal and industrial challenges. Discussions focused on innovative projects, including the development of rice-straw-based tableware and cutlery, value-added applications of rice husk, affordable industrial technologies, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
