Report on the Celebration of World Environment Day

Venue: Government Secondary School, Lower Bermiok
Date: 5th June 2026

Government Secondary School, Lower Bermiok celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students, teachers, and staff members. The programme was organized to create awareness about environmental protection and the importance of preserving nature for future generations.

The celebration began with a special assembly where the importance of World Environment Day was highlighted. The Headmaster addressed the gathering and encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing plastic use, conserving water, planting trees, and keeping the surroundings clean.

Various activities were conducted during the programme, including speech competitions, poster-making activities, and awareness talks on environmental conservation. Students actively participated and shared their ideas on protecting the environment from pollution and climate change.

A tree plantation drive was also organized within the school premises. Teachers and students planted saplings and pledged to take care of them. A cleanliness campaign was carried out around the school campus to promote the message of a clean and green environment.

The celebration concluded with a pledge taken by all participants to protect nature and contribute towards a sustainable future. The programme was successful in spreading environmental awareness and motivating students to become responsible citizens.

REPORT ON THE RETIREMENT OF SHRI DN SHARMA, PRT (GENERAL)

A short farewell program was organized at Government Secondary School, Lower Bermiok, to honor the illustrious career and retirement of Shri DN Sharma, Primary Teacher (General), who will officially superannuate from his service on May 31, 2026. His retirement marks the conclusion of an extraordinary 38 years of dedicated service under the Education Department, Government of Sikkim.

Highlights of the Event

The farewell ceremony was attended by the School Head, fellow teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students.

Tributes and Speeches: Speakers Shri DP Sharma, HM, colleagues Shri JN Sharma and Bishnu Bhakta Sharma highlighted Shri DN Sharma’s foundational role in shaping the academic landscape. Colleagues recalled his unwavering patience, discipline, and deep-rooted commitment to primary education, noting that his 38-year journey spans generations of students in Sikkim.

Farewell Address: In his emotional farewell speech, Shri DN Sharma expressed his deep gratitude to the Education Department, his colleagues, and the community of Lower Bermiok for their cooperation throughout his tenure. He encouraged the remaining faculty to continue striving for academic excellence and to nurture every young mind with care.

Cluster Level Inter- School Elocution Competition for the month of May 2026 has been held at Government Secondary School Lower Bermiok hall on 22 May 2026 in presence of representatives from different participating schools and two invited judges - Mrs. Leela Wati Gautam,PGT and Mr. Deepak Sharma, PGT. Organized to promote public speaking skills, boost self-confidence, and enhance critical thinking among students, primary students of different participating schools showcased their talents by presenting their self- composed Nepali and English poems infront of the distinguished guests. The result of the competition has been given below:

Following the successful community celebration of Tithi Bhoj, Government Secondary School Lower Bermiok hosted its prestigious joint event: the Student Council Investiture Ceremony, Annual Sports Meet 2026 Prize Distribution and Celebration of International Family Day 2026.
The ceremony was organized to formally induct the student leadership team for the academic year 2026 and to honor the outstanding athletic achievements of students. The event was attended by the Headmaster, faculty and the entire student body, creating an atmosphere of pride and celebration.
Part I: Investiture Ceremony (Distribution of Ties & Badges)
The formal pinning of badges and presentation of ties marks the official transition of selected students into roles of responsibility, leadership, and school governance.
Presentation of Insignia: The Head Teacher, alongside staffs presented the official school ties and pinned leadership badges onto the prefects.

Part II: Annual Sports Meet 2026 Prize Distribution

The second half of the event celebrated grit, sportsmanship, and physical excellence, honoring the winners of the recently concluded Annual Sports Meet.
1. Certificate and Medal Distribution
Athletes who secured podium finishes across track and field events were called to the stage to receive their well-earned recognition:
a. Gold and Silver Medals were awarded to individual event winners.
b. Certificates of Merit detailing their specific achievements were handed out to validate their hard work.

Part III: During the day, International Family Day was also celebrated. Speaker, Churamani Sharma focussed on the importance of the day.
International Family Day is celebrated annually on May 15 to highlight the fundamental role families play in society and raise awareness of the social, economic, and demographic processes affecting them. Proclaimed by the UN in 1993, this day promotes family welfare, cohesion, and education on issues like health and gender equality.

Key Reasons for Celebrating International Family Day:
1. Recognizing Families as the Foundation: It honors the family unit as the primary source of love, support, and stability in society.
2. Highlighting Key Issues: The day focuses on addressing global issues affecting families, including poverty, work-family balance, and the impact of climate change or migration.
3. Fostering Social Integration: It encourages policies that strengthen intergenerational solidarity and support vulnerable family members, such as children, the elderly, and the disabled.
4. Promoting Unity & Diversity: It celebrates the diversity of family structures worldwide and emphasizes the importance of family bonds, whether linked by blood or otherwise.
