So, you’re in an interview and you’re asked, “What motivates you?” What do you say? In this video I share a suggested framework for how you can share your response. (Of course, say whatever you want that’s authentic to you - this is just one approach) Interestingly, I posted this video to TikTok too, and here are some of the comments: “So, lie, basically?” “So, dishonesty is the best trait to have in the workplace…” “The interview is all about lies… it is money that motivates everyone!” “Y’all really want us to lie.” This seems to be the key message that a LOT of people took from the video: ‘Be dishonest’. And do you know how that makes me feel? Disappointed. I’m actually really disappointed that this is how so many people truly feel about something that they spend majority of their lives doing. Too many people see their work only as a means to make money. Beyond that, it seems there’s no other reason why they turn up each day. And I can’t imagine how disempowering that must feel. And I get it - we all work because we get paid for it. Without the money, very few would continue working in their current positions (likely only those who are genuinely fulfilled by what they do). But there HAS to be more, not for the sake of your company, but for your OWN happiness and fulfilment. You have to dig deep and reflect on what you’re really passionate about. 👉How you can find meaning in what you do? 👉How you can find motivation by linking your work to your higher purpose? 👉How can you do your work in the spirit of service? When you do this, work becomes so much more than just getting the pay check and paying the bills. So I’m curious to hear from you 👇 When it comes to work, what truly motivates you?
