BHSS Baramulla Organises Environment Awareness Rally During World Environment Week Commemoration
Baramulla, June 18, 2026: In continuation of the ongoing World Environment Week Commemoration, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Baramulla organised an Environment Awareness Rally in Baramulla town to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable practices.
The rally was flagged off by the Worthy Principal, Dr. Shameem Ahmad Bhat, who underscored the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding the environment and preserving natural resources for future generations.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff members of BHSS Baramulla. Traversing through various parts of Baramulla town, participants carried placards and raised awareness through impactful slogans such as:
- "Ann Posh Teli Yeli Wann Posh" (Food is subservient to forests);
- "Save Jhelum, Save Baramulla"; and
- "Save Environment, Save Life."
The major themes highlighted during the rally included:
- Pollution and conservation of River Jhelum;
- Scientific management of Municipal Solid Waste;
- Protection and enhancement of green cover;
- Concerns regarding shrinking water resources; and
- Importance of proper sewage treatment and sanitation.
The programme aimed to sensitise the public and encourage community participation in environmental protection.
BHSS Baramulla expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the District Administration Baramulla, Joint Director School Education, North Kashmir, Chief Education Officer Baramulla, and the Police Administration for their support and cooperation in making the event a success.

*World Elder Abuse Awareness Day* observed at BHSS Baramulla in collaboration with the Legal Department of the District Court under the esteemed leadership of Principal *Dr. Shamim Ahmad Bhat*. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff. Resource persons and distinguished speakers highlighted the importance of respecting and protecting the rights and dignity of senior citizens, while creating awareness about the prevention of elder abuse. The event served as an important platform to promote empathy, responsibility, and social awareness among students.

INTERSCHOOL ECO- QUIZ COMPETITION
Inter-School Environmental Quiz Competition Held at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla
Baramulla, June 12: As part of the ongoing Environmental Week celebrations, an Inter-School Environmental Quiz Competition was organized today at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla under the patronage of Dr. Shamim Bhat, Principal and Patron of the Eco Club, BHSS Baramulla.
The event was organized by the Eco Club of Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, with Syed Akhlaq Geelani, Senior Lecturer in Botany, serving as Convener, and Dr. Sheikh Mubarak, Lecturer in Environmental Science, serving as Co-Convener of the Eco Club.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from several educational institutions, including S.J. Higher Secondary School Baramulla, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Baramulla, High School Deewan Bagh, Middle School Deewan Bagh, High School Khawaja Bagh, High School Bangla Bagh, and GNDM High School.
The quiz programme was conducted by Mr. Shaheen Iqbal, Senior Lecturer in Zoology, who efficiently moderated the event and engaged participants in a stimulating contest covering environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, climate change, pollution control, and sustainable development.
The programme was coordinated by Syed Akhlaq Geelani, Convener, and Dr. Sheikh Mubarak, Co-Convener of the Eco Club, with the active support of Mr. Ajay Khera, Teacher, other staff members, and student volunteers. Teachers and students from the participating schools attended the event in large numbers and appreciated the initiative aimed at promoting environmental consciousness among young learners.
Following a keenly contested competition, S.J. Higher Secondary School, Baramulla secured First Position, while Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla secured Second Position. High School khawaja Bagh claimed Third Position.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shamim Bhat, Patron of the Eco Club and Principal of the institution, congratulated the winning teams and appreciated the efforts of the Convener, Co-Convener, organizing committee, and participating schools for making the event a success. He emphasized the importance of environmental education in shaping responsible citizens and encouraged students to actively contribute towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates and appreciation to the participating teams and organizers. The Environmental Week celebrations at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Baramulla will continue with a series of awareness and eco-friendly activities in the coming days.
