SKIMS Soura & GMC Baramulla Hold Workshop on Early Genetic Screening
Baramulla, September 05 — Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, in collaboration with GMC Baramulla, organised a one-day workshop on “UMMID: Early Genetic Screening, Diagnosis and Counselling for a Healthier Future” at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.
Syed Altaf Hussain Musavi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, was the chief guest. The programme brought together doctors, Block Medical Officers, public health workers, and other healthcare stakeholders.
Key lectures were delivered by Dr. Humera Noor, HoD Gynecology & Obstetrics, and Prof. Dr. Farooq Ahmad Sheikh from GMC Baramulla. The workshop emphasized the importance of early identification, screening, diagnosis, and counselling of genetic and metabolic disorders among pregnant mothers and newborns.
The programme included interactive sessions where participants discussed screening procedures, identification of high-risk cases, and counselling mechanisms. Experts from SKIMS and GMC Baramulla shared their expertise, aiming to strengthen the capacity of public health workers in identifying and referring cases for timely management.
Awards of Appreciation were presented to Block Medical Officers and healthcare workers for their active role in promoting awareness and early screening.
The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment to advance genetic screening initiatives for maternal and child health.
