The Miraculous Mathematical Patterns Hidden in the Adhān
The Adhān is a very important part of the Islamic religion, which calls Muslims to prayer. It is not merely a call; rather, many researchers and religious thinkers claim that it contains numerous miraculous and mathematical patterns hidden within it. These mathematical patterns are called “miraculous” because they do not appear to be man-made—they are reflections of divine wisdom. Below, I have systematically described these mathematical miracles, starting from the structure of the Adhān. These are connected to the mathematical miracles of the Qur’an (such as the use of the number 19), but the focus here is specifically on the Adhān.
1. The Basic Structure of the Adhān and the Mathematical Symmetry of Repetition
The standard lines of the Adhān are as follows (in Arabic with Bengali meanings):
✅ Allāhu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) — 4 times
✅ Ashhadu an lā ilāha illallāh (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) — 2 times
✅ Ashhadu anna Muḥammadar Rasūlullāh (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) — 2 times
✅ Ḥayya ‘alaṣ-ṣalāh (Come to prayer) — 2 times
✅ Ḥayya ‘alal-falāḥ (Come to success) — 2 times
✅ Allāhu Akbar — 2 times
✅ Lā ilāha illallāh (There is no god but Allah) — 1 time
Thus, there are a total of 15 phrases.
The repetition sequence is: 4–2–2–2–2–2–1.
✅ Mathematical Pattern:
The sum of this sequence is
4 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 15,
which creates a perfect symmetrical (mirror-like) structure. It begins with 4 and ends with 1, with repeated 2s in between. This symmetry resembles balance found in nature (such as the two sides of the human body), which appears miraculous.
✅ Daily Mathematics:
The Adhān is called 5 times a day, so the total number of phrases per day is:
15 × 5 = 75.
Here, 75 = 5² × 3 (the square of 5 multiplied by 3), which is associated with the five daily prayers. This mathematically highlights the importance of prayer.
2. Numerical Miracles in Words and Letters of the Adhān
✅ Total Number of Words:
The Adhān contains 50 words (some counts say 47). This is associated with the event of Mi‘rāj—initially, 50 prayers were made obligatory, later reduced to 5 while retaining the reward of 50. Therefore, 50 words in the Adhān symbolize the reward of 50 prayers for the 5 daily prayers.
✅ Number of Letters Used:
The Adhān uses 17 distinct Arabic letters. This matches the total number of daily rak‘ahs:
Fajr (2) + Ẓuhr (4) + ‘Aṣr (4) + Maghrib (3) + ‘Ishā’ (4) = 17 rak‘ahs.
Although Arabic has 28 letters, only 17 are used in the Adhān—this is seen as a deliberate mathematical selection.
✅ Repetition of the Word “Allah”:
The word “Allah” appears 7 times in the Adhān. This is linked to the seven heavens, frequently mentioned in the Qur’an. The first and last words of the Adhān are both “Allah,” forming a circular mathematical structure, symbolizing infinity.
3. Mathematical Connections with the Qur’an
✅ Mention of “Adhān” in the Qur’an:
The word “Adhān” (or its derivatives) appears 5 times in the Qur’an, corresponding to the five daily prayers. This is presented as a direct mathematical link.
✅ Geometrical / Numerical Value:
According to the Abjad system (numerical values of Arabic letters), the word “Adhān” has a value of 752.
The digit sum is: 7 + 5 + 2 = 14, which equals 7 × 2, again linked to the seven heavens.
✅ Multiples of the Number 19:
The famous Qur’anic miracle number 19 (Qur’an 74:30) is also hidden in the Adhān. By numerically combining the Adhān’s phrases (such as repetition counts), a 74-digit number is formed, which is a multiple of 19.
The number 19 was highlighted as a Qur’anic miracle in 1974, and 74 corresponds to Surah 74 of the Qur’an. Even when counting “Lā ilāha illallāh” as 1, another 74-digit number appears that is a multiple of 19. This complex mathematical pattern has been verified using computers.
4. The Continuous Global Mathematical Cycle of the Adhān
✅ Sum of 12 Months:
In some counts, the Adhān contains 12 repeated phrases, corresponding to the 12 months of the year, indicating that Islam continues uninterrupted throughout the year.
✅ Global Miracle:
Due to Earth’s time zones, the Adhān never stops—at every moment, somewhere in the world, the Adhān is being called. This forms a mathematical cycle:
360 degrees of longitude × 24 hours = a continuous loop.
This is seen as a mathematical reflection of Allah’s omnipresence.
Conclusion: Why Are These Considered Miraculous?
These mathematical patterns (such as symmetry, multiples, and digit sums) are claimed not to be coincidental, because creating such patterns 1,400 years ago would have been impossible for humans. They align with other Qur’anic mathematical miracles (such as “day” appearing 365 times and “month” appearing 12 times). However, some scholars consider these interpretations exaggerated, while others see them as evidence of divine origin. This remains an eternal mathematical mystery that further magnifies the majesty of the Adhān.
