भारत देश के गर्व और सौभाग्य का दिवस है। यह पर्व हमारे हृदय में नवीन स्फूर्ति, नवीन आशा, उत्साह तथा देश-भक्ति का संचार है। स्वतंत्रता दिवस हमे इस बात बात की याद दिलाता है कि हमने कितनी कुर्बानियाँ देकर यह आजादी प्राप्त की है, जिसकी रक्षा हमे हर कीमत पर करनी है। चाहे हमे इसके लिए अपने प्राणों का त्याग क्यों न करना पड़ें। हम स्वतंत्रता दिवस के पर्व को पूर्ण उत्साह, उमंग और जोश के साथ मनाते है और राष्ट्र की स्वतंत्रता और सार्वभौमिकता की रक्षा का प्रण लेते है।

भूल न जाना भारत के सपूतों का बलिदान,
इस दिन ले लिए जो हुए थे हँसकर कुर्बान,
आजादी की खुशियाँ मनाकर लो शपथ ये कि,

Why Is Republic Day Celebrated on 26th January In India?

India adopted the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950, giving the day a special place in the history of India. When India got freedom from British rule on August 15, 1947, through peaceful non-violence and civil disobedience movements, it needed an iron-clad document to run a country. January 26, 1950, was the golden day when India became a democratic governing nation. On November 26, 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly, and it came into force on January 26, 1950. The reason why January 26 was chosen as the Republic Day was because, on this day in the year 1930, Indian National Congress (INC) proclaimed the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) rejecting the Dominion status offered by the British Regime.

Significance of the Constitution of India

Constitution of India is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world. Dr BR Ambedkar was the principle architect behind drafting the framework of Indian Constitution. After the adoption of the Constitution, the Union of India became the contemporary Republic of India replacing the Government of India Act, 1935. According to the Constitution of India, “It declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, assuring its citizens of justice, equality, and liberty, and endeavours to promote fraternity among them.” As the people adopt the Constitution of India, it can never be upturned by parliamentary supremacy.

Who drafted the Indian Constitution?

Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Baba Saheb was the man behind drafting the Constitution of India and the reason why we celebrate the Republic Day. He was India’s first law minister of an independent country. He was the guiding force behind the Constitution of India which laid down the ‘framework of defining fundamental political principles, establishes the structure, procedures, powers and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles and the duties of citizens.’ The Drafting Committee with Dr. BR Ambedkar as its chairman met and discussed over a period of 2 years, 11 months and 18 days before adopting the Constitution with 308 members signing two hand-written copies (Hindi and English) on January 24, 1950 and bringing into effect to the nation on January 26, 1950 – India’s first Republic Day.

Republic Day celebrations in India

Every year January 26 is observed as the Republic Day. Indians have prepped up to come together and celebrate the 69th Republic Day on Friday, January 26, 2018. The methods of celebrating and preparing for this patriotic day are very varied in the different part of the country. While all the government officials look forward to participating and witnessing the Flag Hoisting ceremony by the President of India followed by the March Past in Delhi, other enthusiastic school children are eager to perform at their school and attend the flag hoisting ceremonies. Various housing societies also organize flag hoisting ceremonies followed by sweet distribution to celebrate the spirit of the day.
