Why do we see so many children learn to draw with great enthusiasm at the beginning, but lose interest after a few months ?

Some important things for parents and Drawing teachers**

Drawing is not just art—it is a window into a child's feelings, imagination, and mind.

Let's find out the real reasons for this and think about how we can help.

1. Lack of praise and excessive criticism

Many of us think "I will praise if it is good" — but in children's drawing, "good" does not mean just perfect lines, but starting boldly.

👉 A child drew a sun with his hand. You said,
"Isn't it round, is the sun like this?"

The child's mind then says, "Then it is better not to draw..."

📌 Instead, say:
"You drew the sun! Wow! I could never draw like you when I was a child!"

This little thing will take him a long way.

2. Comparison & Pressure

“Look, how beautifully your friend draws, and what did you draw!”

In this one line, you broke his confidence.

👉 Remember, not all children are the same. Some are good at colors, some are good at imagination, some are good at drawing shapes.

📌 What is the solution?
“What you draw is just like you — this is your specialty.”
Explain your progress without comparison.

3. Turn learning into a lesson

It is often seen that parents or teachers turn drawing into a compulsory lesson.
For example: “If you don’t draw this today, you won’t be able to play” — drawing is no longer fun, it becomes a burden.

📌 So teach drawing in a playful way, like a story.
Example:
“Today we will draw a funny face, with one big eye and one small!”
This way of learning means joy in learning.

4. Institutional barriers and time constraints

Many children are overwhelmed by the pressure of school, coaching, and homework.
And parents also think — “Drawing is a waste of time, study first!”

📌 However, research says:
Children who draw regularly have much better attention, memory, and problem-solving skills.

👉 Therefore, learning to draw is not a waste of time, but a solid foundation for personality development.

5. Wrong learning strategy (Lack of Creative Freedom)

Many teachers tell children at the beginning — “Draw this way, not that way.”

Children do not learn, they just imitate.

Gradually, imagination dies, they lose interest.

📌 Solution:
First, let them say — “Draw what you think”

Teaching ideas, not just techniques, is the real art.

Last words:

> Children love to draw — if we keep that place of love alive.

Consider their little drawings “priceless.”
Praise them, give them time, and create opportunities for them to learn through play.
And teachers should be their friends, not just guides.

Because one wrong comment may never bring them back from the world of drawing.

📣 If you are a parent or teacher —

Try one thing today:
“Without criticizing, just look at a child’s drawing with your heart — look into their eyes and say, ‘You drew a story yourself.’”

This very word of yours may give birth to a future artist.
