Maa Durga's sixth avatar, Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri. Hindu mythology says that Goddess Parvati took this form to kill the demon Mahishasura. Therefore Katyayini started to appear as a warrior Goddess and the day ever since is being celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil.

Day 5 of the festival of Navratri is celebrated with the worship of Goddess Skandamata who happens to be another manifestation of Goddess Durga. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati's son Kartikeya is also known Skand and hence Skandmata is another name for Parvati

Shailaputri (शैलपुत्री), is the daughter of the Mountain King Himavat, and is a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Goddess, Durga.[1] She is the first Navadurga venerated during the first day of Navratri
