S. C. Peter Group - SSICL

S. C. Peter Group - SSICL This page belongs to Sebastian C. Peter's research group, NCU, JNCASR. The group works on Solid-State and Inorganic chemistry.

The page is about S.C.Peter's research group, NCU, JNCASR, Bangalore. We work on Solid state and Inorganic Chemistry as mentioned in our Group name - SSICL : Solid State and Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory. The broad research interests of the group are focused on the synthesis and properties of novel solid-state inorganic materials such as intermetallics, chalcogenides and polyoxometalates. The com

pounds are being synthesised by wide variety of techniques both in solid state and solution methods. We focus extensively on the growth of single crystal of interesting compounds using Bridgman, metal flux, hydrothermal and solution methods. Every compounds synthesized will be characterized in detail for their crystal structure by X-ray diffraction and phase analysis using different microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. In intermetallics, a special attention is given towards the compounds containing rare earths especially Ce, Eu and Yb because of the presence of an unstable electronic 4f-shell. Every new compound discovered displayed a novel situation in the physical properties such as magnetism, Kondo effect, heavy-Fermion and superconductivity. The intermetallic compounds in nano dimension are being developing as anode materials in fuel cells. We also focus on the design and synthesis of supramolecular inorganic-organic hybrids based on polyoxometalates for their potential applications in optical, biological and catalytic (both electrochemical and chemical) properties. The research in rare earth doped chalcogenide glasses focuses on the applications in IR transmitter and other optical properties.

Congrats Saurav Ch Sarma and other co-authors for the work, where we have investigated that changing the active centre from Pd to Se gave higher stability towards Hydrogen Evolution Reaction
Check out for the more details

The use of hydrogen, being an environmentally cleaner source of energy, may reduce the pressing problem of CO2 emissions due to the burning of conventional fossil fuels. However, the prolonged production of hydrogen is a major issue and can be solved through designing a stable electrocatalyst. In th...
