Makar(a) Sankranti is the only Hindu festival based on the solar calendar instead of the lunar. Makar Sankranti is the celebration of the sun's journey from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere and is considered an auspicious time. Makar translates as 'Capricorn' and Sankranti means 'transition'.

Vivekananda was born as Narendranath Datta (name shortened to Narendra or Naren) in a Bengali Kayastha family in his ancestral home at 3 Gourmohan Mukherjee Street in Calcutta, the capital of British India, on 12 January 1863 during the Makar Sankranti festival. He was one of nine siblings.

The only Indian Prime Minister to die outside India is Lal Bahadur Shastri. The first Prime Minister to born in the 20th Century (2nd October 1904) at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Lal Bahadur Shastri is the first person to receive Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1966.

Christmas is celebrated every year on December 25 as it is considered to be the day on which Jesus Christ was born. The name of Christmas comes from the mass of Jesus. Christmas celebration is a symbol of peace and love. It is celebrated around the world with joy and happiness.
