Facilitating teachers' training progs, workshops for corporate organizations, for parents etc. Lying down beside my grandma, under the breeze of our noisy
fan, I slept, only to be awakened by my dreams. Dreams in which
crows and foxes loved vadas, hares and tortoises tried to race each
other, vetaal outwitted Vikram eternally, Lord Ganesha proved a
point to Lord Karthikeya by claiming the divine mangoā€¦ the list is
endless! Stories with wit, wisdom, morals; with Maharajas, witches,
stepmothers are part of our cultural heritage and so part of the
history and literature we ought to know. We live in a remarkable age of television and space flights, tower
blocks and instant foods, with an increasing need to appreciate and
revive things that were enjoyed by our grandfathers and
grandmothers. Story-telling is one such aspect, which needs to
regain its losing lustre. Storipur aims to do so!! Our story-telling sessions kindle abstract-thinking (what did
freedom mean to Hansel and Gretel?), associative ā€“thinking (what
would Goldilocks borrow from Little Red Riding Hood?), creative-
thinking in the listenerā€™s minds. The sessions are designed based on
Howard Gardnerā€™s Multiple- Intelligences Theory and the different
learning styles (auditory, kinesthetic, visual). Story-telling sessions at Storipur are intended for the entire
community, not just childrenā€¦ā€¦ā€¦..who doesā€™nt enjoy a story!? Music and moves, concepts and thoughts, puppets and props, fun and
relaxation.. story-telling sessions at Storipur are meant to be
experiences!! Exploring and experiencing the different styles of
story-telling from different regions is something we, at Storipur are
working on. Sometimes, combined with art/ craft, sometimes with an
apt take-away, our sessions are collective and changing experiences-
no telling at Storipur is ever the same!

At home, in the library, under a tree, curled up on a rainy afternoon or perched on a windowsillā€¦ there are as many ways to read as there are readers! This International Literacy Day, Pratham Booksā€™ One Day, One Story (ODOS) celebrates the simple joy of coming together around a story. Author Rohini Nilekani brings her book I Love to Read to life in a special reading session, with storyteller Priya Muthukumar bringing fun activities inspired by the story.
