Celebrating the *26th World Goa Day 2026* with music, culture, youth and community. 🎶

This year’s celebration, organised by *Floyd Music Academy*, was especially meaningful as our students took to the stage and performed together for the very first time at a World Goa Day celebration.

From young musicians on keyboard, guitar and violin, to speeches, cultural performances, Goan food and moments shared with our guests, the day became a beautiful reminder of what happens when the next generation is given an opportunity to participate in our culture rather than simply observe it.

A heartfelt thank you to every student, parent, performer, guest, artist, musician and supporter who helped make the day possible.

For us at Floyd Music Academy, this was about much more than a performance. It was about giving young people a stage, building their confidence, encouraging creativity and helping them create memories that will stay with them for years to come.

*When culture is handed to the next generation, it lives.*

Here are a few moments from a very special day. ❤️🎹🎻🎸

Can your child begin a song from somewhere other than bar one?

Always starting from the beginning can make a piece dependent on one continuous sequence. If one link breaks during a performance, the player may not know where to continue.

Try the **three-starting-point method**:

1️⃣ The opening
2️⃣ The beginning of a middle section
3️⃣ The beginning of the final phrase

Ask the player to begin from each point after a complete stop.

Before playing, they should identify:

🎹 The starting note
🎹 The correct finger
🎹 The tempo
🎹 The first rhythm

This is not a pass-or-fail test, and it does not replace playing the complete piece. It is an additional practice method that can strengthen recall and make recovery after a mistake easier.

Save this for the next practice session.

Before describing a child as “lazy” at the keyboard, examine the practice task.

Possible signs that the child may be bored, under-challenged or unclear about what to do include:

🎹 Avoiding repetitive exercises but willingly playing a favourite tune
🎹 Losing focus during vague practice instructions
🎹 Re-engaging when given a small goal, choice or challenge

These behaviours do not prove boredom. The work could also be too difficult, the instructions unclear or the child simply tired.

Try this ten-minute practice structure:

**2 minutes:** warm-up
**5 minutes:** one small, specific goal
**3 minutes:** favourite song

Then observe whether the child’s attention changes.

Save this for the next practice session.

Parents, I would genuinely like to hear from you.

What is the biggest challenge you face with your child’s music learning?

1️⃣ Getting them to practise regularly
2️⃣ Keeping them interested and motivated
3️⃣ Knowing whether they are actually progressing
4️⃣ Something else

Your answers will help Floyd Music Academy create better learning support—and shape the online keyboard program I am currently developing for children.
