Gratitude 🙏

A rush of breeze
A soft drizzle
A drifting smell of the earth
A relief from the blistering heat...

A group of tall trees
A bunch of pretty flowers
A riot of colours
A relief from the ugly concrete...

Every day life is full of stories...

Recently I received an invite to be a part of a K-12 school's Reading Week. Just a few days after that I happen to travel with my family. While on this trip, we had the good fortune of meeting an author and his lovely family.

After learning about my storytelling venture, I received a copy of the book - Win Hands Down with a thoughtful handwritten note - it was a "fan-like moment" for me.

With the book detailing stories behind words & idioms, it seemed a perfect fit for the Reading Week session. Children were intrigued by the story behind the idiom - barking up the wrong tree. A student then came forward to share that her father once said to her - "you are barking up the wrong tree by asking me, you should ask your mother" - and that's the way she learnt it's meaning. This interesting book inspired many conversations, much more than I had imagined!

You might see in the picture, a bookmark - look closely - it has a beautiful pattachitra - how did this artistic piece come into my possession? Well that's another story, for another day. Like I said, every day life is full of stories.

In a daily routine, I would have missed this interesting growth on the net. But after doing the nature guide certification course, the mind seems to have opened up in multiple ways. The smallest element in nature catches attention and interest. And so, I saw these thin, delicate stalks with tiny white bulbs at the ends.
A case of - "where your focus goes, your energy flows"

Are they the Udumbara flowers that bloom once in 3000 years, or eggs of the lacewing insect? Still exploring. That is the second bunch that has come up on the balcony net. Let's see what happens next...

I confess.

I have some amount of contamination OCD.

So you can imagine what I would have done when I saw a swarm of mosquito look alike insects swarming my balcony ceiling in the beginning of January this year.

But this time, I did not immediately brush away the insects! Surprising, no? I was surprised, myself :)

Inspired by the teachings, and writings of at , I decided to observe and explore the species - carefully managing to get a few specimens, I tried to understand who they were, and why they had suddenly made an appearance in my home.

Here are some observations and possible inferences:
- online sources say they could be midge flies.
- they possibly came for the Christmas lights on the balcony.

I still don't know their exact identity. But observing, exploring, and understanding the wildlife in the backyard, or in this case, the balcony was a reward in itself!
