This is NGC 1365 — a barred spiral galaxy 56 million light-years away.

In barred spirals, stars form a straight central bar, and the spiral arms begin at the ends of that bar.

This is the Hamburger Galaxy (NGC 3628), a spiral galaxy about 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo.

Its nickname comes from the thick dark dust lane cutting across its bright center, making it look like a cosmic hamburger. The galaxy is seen edge-on from Earth, which lets us clearly see that band of dust blocking the light from billions of stars behind it.

Imaged by Ridhi Anish on 21 Feb 2026, at Rocky Ridge Farm.
