Control Objectives for Information and related Technology

The Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT) is a set of best practices (framework) for information technology (IT) management created by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and the IT Governance Institute (ITGI).

The new COBIT® 5.0 defines five Governance processes and four Management domains. Within each process, Evaluate, Direct and Monitor (EDM) practices are defined with the responsibility areas of Plan, Build, Run and Monitor (PBRM).

COBIT has evolved from an IT Audit and Control framework into an IT Management framework and now into an IT Governance framework. COBIT® 5.0 is the only business framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT. The COBIT® 5.0 frame work builds and expands on COBIT 4.1 by integrating other major frameworks, standards and resources, including Val IT, Risk IT, ITIL and related standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

COBIT 5 provides guidance to executives and those charged with making decisions concerning the use of technology in support of organizational objectives. COBIT® 5.0 helps business leaders address the needs of all stakeholders across the enterprise and ultimately maximize the value from information and technology.
