IBAB is a not-for-profit institute in India that has pioneered an inter-disciplinary approach to education, research and entreprenuership in the domains of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology. IBAB is an initiative of Department of IT, BT and S & T, Government of Karnataka and had been designated as a 'Centre of Excellence for Research and Training in Bioinformatics' of the Department of Information
Technology, Government of India. It has recently added several state of the art facilities to its bioinformatics and biotechnology laboratories to enhance its training and research capabilities. IBAB also hosts GANIT Labs, a multi institutional public-private partnership under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and Department of IT, BT and ST, Government of Karnataka, that works in the area of genome sequencing and data analysis. In addition to its flagship MSc in 'Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology' (degree awarded by University of Mysore) programme the institute also offers PhD and Post-Doctoral programmes. IBAB has world class faculty trained from top-notch institutions with significant teaching and research experience. Students are exposed to the most recent advances in the biotech industry and academic research through the large number of scientists who visit IBAB all year around from across the globe. The combination of teaching capacities, exposure to current research, focus on self-learning capacities, personality development and modern facilities have helped IBAB to be among the very few Indian institutes which have achieved 100% placement record in the lifesciences' sector.
