The Shepherd’s Tool: The first "bats" were actually curved shepherds' crooks! Since early bowling was underarm and rolled along the ground, the hockey-stick shape was perfect for hitting.

The "Wicket" Gate: The word "wicket" likely refers to a small side-gate. Early players, particularly milkmaids, used these gates or even milking stools as their targets.

USA vs. Canada?: The first-ever international cricket match wasn’t England vs. Australia—it was the USA vs. Canada in 1844, played in Manhattan, New York!

History remembers May 1st for the struggle for the 8-hour workday—a foundational shift in how we value human time and effort. But as we stand in an era of AI and automation, the significance of International Workers' Day has evolved.

It is no longer just about the hours we put in; it is about the human connection we bring out.

The shift from Labor to Legacy:

1886: The fight for fair time.

2026: The fight for authentic connection.

In a digital-first world, "work" is increasingly about the ability to build bridges between technology and the people it serves. Today, we don't just celebrate the effort; we celebrate the creativity, empathy, and strategic thinking.

Happy International Workers' Day to the architects of progress. Let's keep building.
