Dr. M Srinivasan, Founder GEAR Foundation, was one of the esteemed panelists in the 17th landmark edition of FICCI FRAMES 2016. The panel discussion was on the topic India needs a kids content Act, where the panelists discussed about the challenges faced by the kids programs in India. It is seen that over the years, there has been no restriction or monitoring of the content being used in the kids' TV programs though there are character licensing & merchandising. This led to the industry leaders to request for a policy / an act so that there is customization of content and usage of India original content.
Dr Srinivasan's take on the panel discussion was to regulate the content for kids in such a way that Indian kids are not robbed of their rich heritage and culture and request for a need for them to get the right content and education through entertainment. He also indicated that there is a need to ensure that the India cultural values and ethos are safeguarded by bringing in the right balance between the foreign content and Indian original content.
He also added that in a child's life the first eight years are the most important. The digital and media content influences the child's character the most. Hence serious attention should be paid to this age group.

“Once upon a time…….”
Don’t we all love a good story? Stories are magical! A story educates us. A story entertains us. It captures our imagination, transports us to another world instantly, and for those few moments we lose ourselves in the story.
On February 6th 2015, the students of GEAR International Montessori Institute had the opportunity of attending a workshop on “storytelling skills” facilitated by Mrs Dhanya Menon, an ex-GIMI student and certified storyteller from Kathalaya, Bangalore. She explained the importance of storytelling in the formative years along with various storytelling techniques and shared valuable tips to keep children engrossed while narrating stories in the classroom.

GIMI students had a great experience in showcasing their talents and displaying material that they had designed during the course, at the annual M.I Activities exhibition at GEAR Foundation. Little children who visited the strand took chances bowling, throwing darts, tossing shapes and playing hopscotch along with their parents. There was also an hourly story session for children about the "very hungry caterpillar" telling the difference between junk and healthy foods, after which they got to thumb-print their own caterpillar to take home! The snack box ideas for preschoolers were a smashing hit, with parents pouring in requests for recipes. Thank you all for making this event a huge success!! We look forward to see you all next year.
