Dityaa Mahesh
Activity: Exploration of Pink Tower

Dityaa independently chose the Pink Tower. She arranged the tower vertically and admired it. Then she dismantled the tower and arranged the cubes in their order of dimension horizontally. She ran her fingers from the largest to the smallest, the way she would do on the brown stairs.

Next, she began exploring the dimensions by making two stacks of four cubes. She kept checking the sizes of different cubes for comparison of size and dimension.

During the next fifteen minutes, she stacked the cubes to balance the bigger on the smaller. She made two equal-height towers and then tried making three unequal towers.

After half an hour of work, she sat with the material, not doing anything, just looking at them.

She wound up the Pink Tower after the adult told her that if she was done, she could wind up.

way of learning Why?
To make the child aware of the individual words in reading and particularly the function and position of the adjective. It helps the child see that each word has a role, and that the adjective gives more detail about the noun.

What it does?
This activity introduces the child to the relationship between the article, adjective, and noun. By using objects, word slips, and grammar symbols, the child gains a sensorial impression of how the adjective works in a sentence. It refines the child’s understanding that the adjective tells what kind or what quality of noun.

When it’s given?
Around 5 years of age, after the child has had experience with reading words (articles and nouns) and is ready to explore the functions of words in greater depth.

How it helps?

Builds awareness that sentences are made of individual words, each with a purpose.

Helps the child understand the position of the adjective (between the article and noun).

Encourages precise reading, as the child must distinguish “the elephant” from “the majestic elephant.”

Gives a concrete and visual experience through grammar symbols, preparing the child for abstract grammar later.

Strengthens observation, vocabulary, and early logical thinking.

Encourages independent reading and accuracy, as the child sees how meaning changes when an adjective is added.
