On May 4, 2024, the Center for Environmental Education (CEE) and EPAM, in advocacy partnership with the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), organised a plastic clean drive in Doresanipalya forest campus. This initiative is part of EPAM's dedicated Climate Change Warriors program aimed at educating employees across India about climate change. CEE, in partnership with EPAM, has conducted various webinars, awareness campaigns, and plantation programs to foster awareness and action towards sustainability and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Doresanipalya forest campus, formerly a part of the Bannerghatta National Park, is a 25-acre patch of forest serving as a vital green lung amidst urban expansion. This forest harbors rich biodiversity, supporting diverse trees, birds, mammals, and insects. In observance of Earth Day 2024 with the theme "Planet vs Plastic," the team mobilised more than 50 participants to collect plastic waste from the Doresanipalya forest region.
A total of 164 kg of plastic waste was successfully gathered during the clean drive, showcasing the participants active engagement in addressing the pressing issue of plastic pollution. After collecting of plastic waste, it's noteworthy to mention that this collected plastic waste undergoes recycling processes. The plastic is directed to the recycling industry, where it is repurposed for various applications, including the production of furniture. This sustainable approach not only helps in reducing environmental pollution but also contributes to the circular economy by giving discarded plastic a new life.
