LACEFilms celebrated the centenary birthday of the legendary Cinematographer, VK Murthy in a befitting manner with a commemorative Masterclass on the topic of โ€˜Aesthetic Experience in Visual Artsโ€™ by Mr. B R Viswanath, the renowned artist-cinematographer on Sunday, November 26, 2023. It is to be noted here that V K Murthy ushered in the era of โ€˜Bombay Noirโ€™ as Mr. Sreeram Raghavan, the eminent film-maker puts it. Though V K Murthy adopted the visual styling of the Masterly works in โ€˜American Film Noirโ€™, he gave the genre its unique Indian aesthetic so as to successfully articulate the loneliness and despair of the protagonists who inhabit a societal ecosystem that is driven by greed and manipulation.๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ

Defining the role of Aesthetics during the discourse, Mr. Viswanath observed that โ€œThe Aesthetic Experience is the subliminal treasure-chest meditating upon which the audience is transported to an ethereal zone.โ€ Further, he elaborated on the role of various picture-elements and demonstrated how our aesthetic experience is shaped by our perception of the various picture elements in the context of our understanding of the world around us. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ท๐Ÿ˜
Prof.N Manu Chakravarhthy, the renowned film-scholar and Ms. Vidya Murthy, the ex-curator of The National Museum of Singapore who were also present on the occasion gave additional inputs on the subject.

The forthcoming Masterclass on Sunday, December 17, 2023 will be delivered by the renowned film-maker, Sri P Sheshadri.
