A strong justice system needs strong representation at the grassroots. That is what the IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) Litigation Fellowship is building in Sikkim.

Through five days of intensive training and mentorship, eight advocates from the second cohort engaged with human rights, environmental law, civil and criminal procedure, and practical courtroom skills.

Through this fellowship, IDIA is strengthening young advocates at the district-court level and helping build stronger legal representation for vulnerable communities across Sikkim.

The orientation may be over, but the learning now moves into the courts, where these advocates will put it into practice with the communities they represent.

Good litigation is built long before a case is argued in court.

For the second Kerala cohort of the IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) Litigation Fellowship, five days of orientation brought young advocates into conversations with retired judges, experienced lawyers, and IDIA leaders, covering everything from civil procedure and evidence to negotiation, ethics, and communication.

13 fellows now begin their fellowship with a stronger foundation, a wider legal network, and a clear focus on serving clients at the grassroots.

From being a National Law University (NLU) student who saw the gaps in access firsthand to becoming someone who helps bridge them, Kushal Sarkar has been an important part of IDIA's work in Northeast India.

As a member of IDIA's (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) Assam Chapter and part of our Training & Management Team, Kushal has mentored and engaged with students across the region, helping them navigate a path he knows himself.

We’re grateful to have Kushal contributing to IDIA’s mission of making legal education more accessible.

Law isn't confined to courtrooms or one system. It runs through almost every part of society, shaping how we live, work, create, and build. Be it sports, media, films, business, or the IPL, wherever you look, there is law, and there are lawyers behind it.

That was the perspective the IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) West Bengal Chapter brought to 123 students at Hartley Higher Secondary School, Kolkata.
And now, they know that pursuing a career in law doesn't mean leaving their interests behind. It means using their legal expertise to protect, shape, and uphold the fields they care about.

For IDIA, Law for All begins at the grassroots level, by expanding perspectives and bringing more students into the conversation around legal education.

A student's career shouldn't be limited by the opportunities they happen to hear about.

That belief brings IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) + CRY (Child Rights and You ) together for Virtual Law For All on 10th & 12th August 2026.

With CRY's commitment to expanding opportunities for young people and IDIA's work to make legal education more accessible, this collaboration brings conversations around law and careers to more students.

This is one more step towards making legal education visible and the legal profession more representative of the talent across India.

In many parts of North-East India, students have never even heard of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the entrance exam to India's National Law Universities, or the opportunities a legal education can offer.

Determined to change that, Mingma Sherpa and an all-women IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) team travelled across remote districts, navigating long train journeys, difficult terrain, and countless logistical challenges to reach villages where this information had never arrived.

At IDIA, no distance is too great when it comes to expanding access to legal education.

And the journey doesn't end with awareness. From CLAT coaching and financial support to mentorship throughout law school, IDIA stands beside these students until they become lawyers.

One village. One student. One future at a time.

At every Law for All session, IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) is reminded that our role isn't to find potential.

That potential is already there.

Our role is to help students discover possibilities they may never have known existed.

This time, in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, we introduced 827 students across three schools to legal education, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), and the pathways to a career in law.

Today, those possibilities have reached future lawyers, judges, legal scholars, policymakers, and changemakers who may one day shape a more just and equitable society.

Our IDIA (Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education) scholar Aman began his journey with a single Facebook conversation that changed everything. It led him to IDIA.

IDIA offered mentorship. Aman made every opportunity count.
IDIA gave Aman access. Aman turned it into achievement.
IDIA invested in his journey. Today, Aman is investing in the journeys of countless students as the Team Leader of the IDIA Jharkhand Chapter.

That's the power of IDIA. We don't just help students become lawyers. We nurture leaders who return to ensure the next generation has the same chance they once did.

We believe the greatest impact of opportunity isn't where it takes one student. It's how many more they take along with them.

Every outreach session adds another brick to something much larger.

Across Maharashtra, the Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) chapter is creating new pathways into the legal profession.

School by school, city by city, volunteers are ensuring that students who have long been excluded from conversations around law are finally part of them.

That's the mission of IDIA. By introducing talented students to the possibility of law, mentoring them through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), and supporting them on their journey to India's leading law schools, IDIA is building a legal profession that better reflects the society it serves.
