The Right to Information (RTI) movement showed India what becomes possible when ordinary people gain access to the law. A question raised by workers in Rajasthan went on to transform how citizens across the country demand accountability from people of power.
And yet, even today, the people who experience injustice most closely are often the ones with the least access to the legal system itself.
At Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA), we work to bridge that gap by supporting students from marginalised communities to enter law schools and become voices for their own communities.
Because when the law reaches people who have lived through inequality, it stops being just a profession. It becomes a tool for transformation.
IDIA- Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education
IDIA is a not-for-profit organization that aims to empower marginalised and underprivileged communities across India by improving diversity in legal education.

Proof that a single conversation can change everything.
In the remote regions of Jharkhand, where opportunities rarely reach classrooms, curiosity is beginning to grow.
Children who had never heard of law, now dream of being lawyers, leaders and changemakers who can uplift their own communities.
At IDIA, this is what we mean by Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access. (IDIA)
Because diversity in the legal profession cannot exist unless opportunity reaches every corner of India.
As India develops at an unprecedented pace, many communities still remain excluded from the opportunities that growth creates.
Through Law For All sessions across Alwar and Khairthal-Tijara in Rajasthan, IDIA, in collaboration with Innovative House India, is working to change that.
We are Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA) using the law as a tool to open doors, expand access and empower students to become leaders who can shape the future of their own communities.

Justice is only possible when those interpreting the law reflect the aspiration of the people they serve. The IDIA Diversity Survey highlights a critical gap: without representation in law schools, marginalised voices remain missing from our courtrooms.
At Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access (IDIA), we transform the legal profession from an exclusive circle into a representative force, ensuring the future of Indian justice belongs to everyone.

Tell us what your favourite memory with him is..β€οΈ
On the occasion of his birthday week, weβre not just celebrating the mission he built, but also the person behind it all.
To the world, he was a visionary. But beyond all of that, Shamnad was also someone people deeply cared about, admired and loved. A fun-loving person whose warmth, kindness, and presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
We are remembering and celebrating Shamnad as a human being beyond his achievements and through this the memories people continue to hold close. β¨
There is something endlessly fascinating about people like late Prof. Shamnad Basheer.
The kind of people who look at the world as it is and still choose to imagine what it could become. And perhaps that is what made him extraordinary.
And what is even more inspiring is knowing that his work continues to impact long after the architect is gone, almost like a ripple refusing to fade. In every student mentored. Every scholarship offered. Every parent who now believes their child can dream bigger. Every young person who now sees law not as a distant world, but as a world they, too, can belong to.
Today, as we celebrate Shamnad by celebrating the mission he built, every life touched by IDIA carries forward a part of his vision, his compassion, and the most powerful legacy, one that continues to live through people long after the person is gone.
