What does it take to make vocational education future-ready?

It takes strong partnerships between ITIs, industry and government - so young people can learn relevant skills, gain workplace experience and move from training to meaningful careers.
This was the idea behind the Kerala PM SETU Industry Partnership Forum & Industry-ITI Leadership Dialogue 2026 that took place on August 11.

Quest Alliance joined the Industrial Training Department, Government of Kerala, and the Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE) in Kochi for a day of dialogue with industry leaders, ITI leadership and ecosystem partners about PM SETU’s vision to transform ITIs through upgraded infrastructure, hub-and-spoke clusters, industry-led partnerships, curriculum alignment, trainer development and stronger pathways to employment.

The dialogue also surfaced priorities for Kerala’s vocational education ecosystem - deeper industry exposure, apprenticeships, workplace learning, career counselling, instructor development, mentorship, technology exposure, and stronger industry participation in curriculum and placement pathways.

For Quest Alliance, this builds on over six years of partnership with Kerala’s ITI ecosystem to strengthen employability, future-ready skills and career pathways.When young people have the skills, support from their ecosystem, and opportunities to shape their futures, vocational education can open the door to careers they build for themselves.

Computational Thinking isn’t just about coding. It is a future skill that helps young people solve real problems.

A student noticing animals being injured on a road. A group trying to make a railway crossing safer. A classroom figuring out how to approach an everyday challenge.

Quest Alliance’s Computational Thinking (CT) curriculum - Kaushali - for government secondary schools in Odisha, is designed to teach CT as a separate technical skill where learners break everyday problems down, identify patterns, explore solutions, test ideas, and reflect on what works.

This approach was presented by our colleagues and Master Trainers at CTiS Conference 2026: from local wildlife and AI by Debasish Panigrahi & Priyabrata Das, to school-level hackathons by Rasmirekha Sutar & Dikshya Mohanty, making thinking visible by Bibekananda Sahoo & Subham Kumar Dash, and CT in a remote, resource-constrained school by Abhijeet Mishra.

Young people already encounter problems every day. What they need are the space, tools and agency to understand them and create solutions.

Learning and unlearning are the new superpowers!

We don't know what's next - curriculums and skills we taught so far are no longer helpful for young learners. AI is already changing classroom syllabus and teaching techniques.

In this conversation, Jai and Chandana reflect on the one thing they believe will always matter - adapting. 

For young people navigating an uncertain world of work, the ability to keep learning, unlearning and trying again can help them to adapt for whatever comes next.

Adapting, as a skill, also helps them build agency and confidence in their choices.

For Rajni, curiosity leads her to learn and explore. She pursued what interested her, experimented with it, and discovered what felt meaningful to her.

One choice led to another and eventually, to a path that's entirely her own.

As we move towards International Youth Day, we're celebrating young people who are learning, exploring, and are shaping futures on their own terms.

Women entrepreneurs make up 35% of registered Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Tripura.

This data is proof that women are building, leading, and shaping local economies.

Papiya’s journey is a powerful example. From home tailoring in remote parts of South Tripura to founding three institutes and mentoring 45 trainees, she turned skill into livelihood and livelihood into leadership.

Her story is not only about business growth. It is about courage, persistence, and creating space for more women to dream bigger.
