Dr Mamatha G Hegde, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Design received "Leadership in Administration Award" today (15 September 2026) in the event of Engineers Day Celebrations organised in Ramaiah Technology Campus. Dr T. G Sitharam, Former Chairman of AICTE, Prof Kuldeep Kumar Raina Vice Chancellor, MSRUAS, Mr Ashok Rao, Registrar and Dr Sarat Kumar Maharana, Dean RTC, MSRUAS handed over the Award.

Fashion Design Department organized Fashion Show on 7 September 2026 in the event of 'National Handloom Expo 2026' HMT ground, Bengaluru. Weavers had put stalls of Traditional weaves, authentic handloom sarees, unique fabrics, and handicrafts. During the show students showcased the handloom Sarees draping styles, shawls and products presentation. The Handloom expo is the platform to connect traditional artisans directly with buyers, cutting out middlemen to ensure fair compensation and sustainable livelihoods. In this expo weavers sell products straight to consumers, improving profit margins. In the expo students also visited various stalls The sector heavily features women artisans, providing crucial financial independence.

Students visited various stalls, gained experience on traditional crafts, Regional motifs, authentic fabrics first hand feel through touch and live weaving demonstrations. Fashion show Event bridged the gap between heritage craft with contemporary fashion apparels. Models demonstrated the contemporary draping, unconventional pairings, and modern aesthetics, proving that handlooms fit every day and high-fashion wardrobes rather than just traditional events. All the participants, designers and Models were given certificate.

Dr. Mamatha G Hegde, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Fashion Design participated as one of the invited speaker for ICSSR Seminar - Punyashloka Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Special Call Women-Led Development Through Indigenous Knowledge and Craft Heritage. The event was held on 7 September 2026 in 801, Audi Block, School of Business and Management, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru. The seminar aim was to bring together experts to discuss the intersection of heritage preservation, indigenous weaving traditions, sustainable livelihoods, and women-led development. Dr. Mamatha G Hegde as a speaker shared her academic and research experience related to handloom weaving, natural dyeing, embroidery, costume designing, art etc. She also shred her experience of interaction with soldiers of Leh-Ladak and Saichen Base camp area i.e. requirements for special cold climate clothing, Experience of Hackathons organized by Ural Federal University, Russia, MSRUAS etc. She also said importance global level marketing for manufacturers or producers of local region. Nowadays it is very important to have Geographical indication tag for any product e.g.; Melukote Panche, Patteda anchu sarees of Karnataka. She also highlighted how women became entrepreneurs during the Industrial revolution period. Discussion focused on India's craft, embroidery, and culture costume different states Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Garment and fashion design. Boutiques. Handloom weaving, Artifact s, bamboo art etc.

Department of Fashion Design organised Industrial visit to Shahi Exports Unit 31, Peenya Industrial Area on 2 September 2026 . 1, 2 and 3 year B. Des Fashion Design students participated in the visit accompanied by 2 teaching staff Ms Mamatha G Hegde and Ms Smitha R. In this visit students were exposed to various advanced apparel manufacturing process. Students practically experienced process of fabric storage section, fabric cutting, pattern making, cutting and sewing section. Technical Master explained that Shahi Exports is currently working for Adidas, A&F, PVH, LEVI'S, Tommy Hilfiger brands.

Workshop on conducted on topic “Terracotta jewellery " by Resource person Ms. Swathi Kamath Fevicryl Certified Professional By Pidilite Pvt Ltd Bangalore on 28.8.2026 for b. des fashion design students. The Terracotta Jewellery is made from baked earth. Resource person Ms Swathi explained the process of using ready clay on molds, She also demonstrated the paintings of prepared terracotta jewellery. Benefits of the workshops are product made is Eco-Friendly since it is made from biodegradable earth materials that leave no harmful waste. · Safe to Skin, Natural and non-allergic, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin. Lightweight, Comfortable to wear for long hours despite its chunky, rich look. Students learnt to create the matching accessories with traditional sarees, Kurtis, and Indo-western wear. Over all workshop was very much useful.

Faculty and B.Des Fashion Design students of the Department visited "Gifts World Expo 2026", organized by MEX Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. in association with Messe Frankfurt Trade Fair India Pvt. Ltd., held from 20 to 22 August 2026 at Tripura Vasini, Palace Grounds, Bengaluru. The expo, South India's largest gifting exhibition, featured over 250 exhibitors, 1,000+ brands and 8,000+ products across apparel and accessories, home décor, corporate gifting, promotional products and handicrafts. Students visited the Stationery Pavilion and Startup & Innovation Hub, gaining exposure to emerging trends in sustainable and personalised gifting, and interacted with exhibitors on product design, merchandising and branding practices relevant to the fashion and accessory industry.

Guest lecture conducted on topic “Designing of Apparels using AI tools in industry and Sustainability factor Pros and Cons" by Resource person Mr. Revant Karthik, Director, Sunscope, Foreign Office and Global Merchandising, Bangalore. The event conducted on 19.8 2026 in A204 room, RTC campus for all B. Des Fashion Design students. During the guest lecture the resource person explained about importance of AI. Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing fashion design by bridging human creativity with data-driven innovation. He said from automated trend forecasting to 3D digital apparel rendering, AI tools empower designers to craft smarter, faster, and more sustainable collections across the creation workflow.
