Europcar has Denied claims of a massive data breach affecting 50 million customers, following assertions by a hacker named "lean" on BreachForums. The hacker alleged to have data from 48,606,700 users, including sensitive details like usernames, passwords, and personal information. Europcar, however, asserts that the breach is fabricated, with falsified records likely created using artificial intelligence (AI). The company notes discrepancies in the data compared to its own records, suggesting many details are AI-generated and do not match existing customer information. Troy Hunt of HaveIBeenPwned also highlights inconsistencies, though he disputes the assertion that AI was involved. While some email addresses are real, Hunt notes that fabricated breaches are not uncommon, emphasizing the need for cautious assessment of such claims

A financially motivated threat actor using USB devices for initial infection has been found abusing legitimate online platforms, including GitHub, Vimeo, and Ars Technica, to host encoded payloads embedded in seemingly benign content.
The attackers hide these payloads in plain sight, placing them in forum user profiles on tech news sites or video descriptions on media hosting platforms.
These payloads pose no risks to users visiting these web pages, as they are simply text strings. However, when integrated into the campaign's attack chain, they are pivotal in downloading and executing malware in attacks.
