Recently, the population of the vulnerable eastern swamp deer has dipped in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (Assam). The eastern swamp deer is extinct elsewhere in South Asia.
This decline can be attributed to two high floods in 2019 and 2020.
However, on the brighter side, the eastern swamp deer has now been distributed to areas beyond the Kaziranga National Park, such as Orang National Park and Laokhowa-Burachapori wildlife sanctuaries (Assam).d.

The Union Cabinet has approved the extension of the tenure of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) for three years beyond 31st March, 2022.
The major beneficiaries would be the Safai Karamcharis and identified manual scavengers in the country.
Manual scavenging is defined as “the removal of human excrement from public streets and dry latrines, cleaning septic tanks, gutters and sewers”.

Solar power generation is set to make rapid strides in Rajasthan with public sector banks acceding to the State government’s request to grant loans without collateral security to farmers for installing solar plants at their infertile or semi-barren land.
Rajasthan became the first state to complete the selection of farmers for installation of solar plants on their land in July 2021 with the capacity exceeding the targets set by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

India's passport power has improved this quarter compared to 2021. It now ranks at 83rd position in the Henley Passport Index, climbing seven places from 90th rank last year.
However, in 2020, its rank stood at 84 while in 2016, India was ranked 85th along with Mali and Uzbekistan. Japan and Singapore top the index.
Indian passport improved its rank in the latest Henley Passport Index 2022 rankings by jumping 7 positions from 90 to 83. India now has visa-free access to 60 destinations worldwide with Armenia and Oman being the latest additions.

The Indian Navy has successfully test-fired an extended-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from its newly commissioned INS Visakhapatnam destroyer.
BrahMos naval variant:
It has been designed to launch either in a vertical or a horizontal mode from moving/stationary assets to target both land and sea targets.
It can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, and land platforms.

Mobile Honey Processing Van that will process beekeepers’ honey at their doorsteps and thus save them the hassle and the cost of taking the honey to processing plants in far off cities for processing.
This initiative is taken in pursuance of “Sweet Kranti” (Sweet Revolution).

Former RBI governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as a vice president of the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Urjit Patel is currently the chairman of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy. He had taken over as the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) succeeding Raghuram Rajan in September 2016 and was with RBI till December 2018.
