Over a 100 years ago — on January 6, 1907 — Maria Montessori opened her first school in Rome. And in a speech that day she made a prediction, which she recalled decades later: "I don’t know what came over me but I had a vision and, inspired by it, I was inflamed and said that this work we were undertaking would prove to be very important and that someday people would come from all over the world to see it."
Dr. Montessori was right. Today there are Montessori schools around the globe, where countless children and adults continue to flourish because of her lofty expectations and even loftier efforts.
