💭What is novel about Project SAMA?

Are schools the right places to deliver mental health support and intervention?

Here at project SAMA we believe Yes! As schools themselves can be a risk factor for adolescent mental health and have duty of care to at least 'do no harm'. And at best, schools are a great platform for reaching lots of young people with evidence-based resources that could help them navigate the turbulent years of adolescence when vulnerability to poor mental health escalates.

Does school life really make a difference to the well-being of young people?

In short: YES…

Schools are central to the lives of teenagers. They spent most of their time there and it’s the place where their friendships stem from. School can be a site of anxiety and worry, due to academic pressure and the need to fit in and 'be normal'. Relationships with teachers can hugely affect how a young person feels about themselves and school.

Bullying, racism, sexism, humiliation, and exclusion can all happen at school just as they happen in the workplace.

If it is not tolerate in the workplace, should it be tolerated in schools?

Recruitment for SAMA schools is now COMPLETE!🥳

We are excited to build closer working relationships with our 14 schools based across Bengaluru and the Kolar districts over the next few years, implementing project SAMAs suite of multi-component school-based interventions.

Right now at Project SAMA we are busy preparing for our series of focus groups to co-produce our four interventions (WP1-4) with our various stakeholders that will work synergistically across school systems to benefit Indian adolescents! 👇them out below:
