Adolescence is a time of curiosity, change, and self-discovery. To support our students during this important stage of life, St. John's School conducted an interactive workshop for students of Grades 6, 7, and 8, facilitated by our school counsellor.
The first session focused on understanding healthy friendships and the importance of making age-appropriate choices. Students explored how distractions, including an excessive focus on crushes and pairing, can affect their academic goals, personal growth, and emotional well-being.
The discussion encouraged students to channel their energy into meaningful friendships, hobbies, skill development, and learning while building a strong foundation for the future.
The second session addressed body positivity and the harmful effects of body shaming.
Students reflected on how standards of beauty have evolved across cultures and time, reinforcing the message that there is no single definition of beauty. The session also highlighted the importance of self-acceptance, respecting individual differences, and understanding the emotional impact of appearance-based teasing.
Students were introduced to the psychological consequences of body shaming, including low self-esteem, body image concerns, and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
The workshops witnessed enthusiastic participation and thoughtful questions from students, reflecting their eagerness to understand these important aspects of growing up. By creating a safe space for open conversations, we aim to equip our students with the confidence, empathy, and emotional awareness needed to make responsible choices and build healthy relationships with themselves and others.
