Types of roads based on construction material.
#1 WBM: constructed using crushed stone as base material and voids filled by fine (screening). Layer helps for fast draining of water.
#2 Earthen Roads: 2 layers of compacted naturally available soil. Most cheapest and temporary road.
#3 Gravel Roads: constructed with gravel and soil compacted by compactor. Same as earthen used in villages and rural streets.
#4 Kankar Roads: quality better than earthen and gravel, constructed using waste limestone at places with available limestone.
#5 murram Roads: better finish than earthen and gravel. Murram Material is decomposed igneous rock due to weathering.
#6 concrete Roads: concrete is mixture of cement, F.A,and C.A. costliest road and time consuming due to high setting time, the strength and surface finish is very excellent. 20-25 years of lifespan. Become rigid pavement
#7 Bituminous Roads: Bitumen is byproduct of petroleum extraction. Bituminous or asphalt is mixture of Bitumen and aggregates. For flexible pavement. smooth surface finish and 10-15 years of lifespan.
