Dr Shailesh Nayak

In July 2026, Dr Nayak received the prestigious Brock Gold Medal awarded by the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing for outstanding evolution of remote sensing and spatial sciences. Awarded once in four years and supported by the American Society of Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, Dr Nayak is the second Indian to receive the honour. Dr K Kasturirangan, who also served as the NIAS Director, was the other Indian to receive the award in 2004. According to the ISP, “the medal shall be awarded only in respect of an outstanding landmark in the evolution of the photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information sciences, which shall be a proven contribution to these sciences and technologies of whatever form, whether a major completed project or program, some fundamentally new equipment, system or fundamentally new technique, or other new departure.”
