๐ฆ๐บ Studying in Australia and thinking of switching your college or university? Read this first.
Australia has updated the National Code of Practice for international students, and the rules on transferring between education providers have changed. The update has been in effect since October 2026.
๐ What's changed:
Until 30 June 2027, you must complete at least 12 months of your main course before transferring to a new provider (previously 6 months).
From 1 July 2027, the minimum returns to 6 months.
โ
You may be able to transfer earlier if:
- Your provider or course loses its registration
- Your provider faces a sanction that stops you from continuing your course
- Your current provider formally agrees to release you
- Your government sponsor supports the change in writing
โ ๏ธ Changing providers can affect your enrolment and visa conditions, so it's important to understand your options before you make a move.
