Stopping Open Strings 🔕 In this clip on Mudarra’s Harp Fantasy, Peter Katona discusses scale passages and how they should be played with slightly flatter fingers in the left hand to stop dissonant notes ringing across strings. (This is contrary to the usual advice about left-hand fi*****ng, which is to play on the fingertips to allow neighboring strings to resonate.) Stopping the notes means that each time this passage is repeated a step higher, they will all have the same sense of flow.
