I will miss UNIS. I was there for 3 years and as a Specialist Performing Arts teacher it took 3 years to form closer relationships with the wee ones with whom I was working; the wonderful 3 to 7 year olds. It took time for both myself and the children to understand our rhythm both in the session and the other ways we could connect through the Arts.

Things that always helped us to begin conversations to guide our creative notions included questions such as

‘What do you see, think and wonder?’
‘How are these connected to our SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) and why is it important?

One SDG that was often discussed was ‘SDG 15; Life On Land’. Sharing discoveries of worms, frogs, cicadas and the holes and trees they reside in the playground, was a constant connection and conversation of wonders.

Anson loved drawing insects and flowers and after UNIS closed for the Summer break June 25, I was chuffed to receive this in my Inbox.

Connection through nature; connection to each other; connection for life.

For me... it's always a dance between process and performance when showcasing what young children can do. We want to celebrate their authentic learning journey, not just focus on a polished outcome💯

Teamwork takes center stage! 🤝 By combining visual and performing arts, children learn to collaborate, share ideas, and build a cohesive creative vision. Group projects foster communication, problem-solving, and a sense of shared accomplishment.

Every person has a story, a mix of everything life brings. Let's be open to the many ways children choose to share the stories and wonderings of the world.✨

From canvas to choreography! 💃🎨 Visual art can inspire movement and expression. Children can explore emotions and narratives through dance, inspired by colors, shapes, and textures. This connection deepens their understanding of both art forms.
