BIG NEWS! The Roundtable goes to City Hall! 🎉

Earlier this week, the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable was honored with a proclamation at a Pre-Stated Ceremonial in NY City Council Chambers acknowledging the organization's leadership and enduring achievements towards building a vibrant NYC arts education community. Executive Director Kimberly Olsen accepted the honor alongside Co-Chair Gary Padmore and Board Member Debra Freeman.

Members of the Roundtable team also continued our celebration of National Arts in Education Week with the New York City Council by partnering on a “Student Mini-Museum" hosted by Speaker Julie Menin and Deputy Speaker Councilmember Nantasha Williams. These brilliant student artists, selected through our annual It Starts with Arts city-wide competition, shared their art (and poetry!) with members of the Council.

What a way to celebrate National Arts in Education Week! Thank you to New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Commissioner Diya Vij and members of the Department of Cultural Affairs team for joining us for a Listening Tour yesterday in conversation about the arts education workforce.

More than 110 community members gathered together at National Dance Institute to investigate the question, “What do arts education workers need to work and live with dignity in NYC?” Thank you to the many individuals who shared their experiences, ideas, and solutions towards creating a NYC where teaching artists and the broader workforce thrives.

A special shoutout to our incredible presenters: David King, Mary Suk, Brynne O’Rourke, Ed Miller, Marissa Lewis, Alexandra López, and Judith Insell!
