Thamarai Educational Projects

On Sundays we have our PowerPoint and typing class, where the students learn how to make presentations and to type with ten fingers using the laptop. This also teaches concentration and patience. 👩🏾‍💻✨👩🏾‍💻

One of our volunteers is doing sessions with Anganvadi Play School (parent-child group) once a week in Annai Nagar village. sharing songs and games with the children and parents.

Last week in the after-school sessions we've been exploring cooperation and trust when physically relying on one another, and how we can use different senses, proprioception, and feedback from other bodies to guide our movement . A couple of examples of the practices we played with can be seen here with the Edaiyanchavadi students🤩. From both centres, students shared what they experienced, mentioning things like: trusted my friend, felt joy, fear of falling, a thrill, concentration, fun, patience etc. We are grateful for the energy and focused efforts from the students🙏🌺

Last week during our mini-camp we also invited Muthukumar and Suban a Saddha therapist, we did a hemoglobin test with the woman and girls of the village and learned a lot about Ayurveda the parents and students got Ayurveda health check as well. We learned a lot and are very happy that Muthukumar and Suban shared their knowledge with us!👩‍⚕️🧘🩺

ATB is one of the sessions all the students participated in last week during the camp and they really enjoyed the games and play in the ATB ( Awareness Through Body) session.

Last saturday we went on two different trips with the students of Thamarai. The younger ones learned about sound while visiting the new sound garden of . The older ones learned about species and stone fazils that were found nearby as they went to the Pichandikulam forest after visiting the sea in the morning. It was great fun for everyone!🌊🌳🎶✨

After finishing their homework the students of the 1st to 4th standard have some time to explore and learn about forms and also improving their English by using 'magic'-sand and/or play doug or drawing sometimes.

One month ago we started our pottery class. Every Friday from 5:15 to 6:15 the students have the opportunity to learn pottery. Through this hands-on experience the students gain a further clarity into clay art and the means to process and translate their ideas onto clay.🌸✨

On the 22nd, 23rd, and 27th we went to the Matrimandir to participate in the yoga and meditation sessions from 6:15 - 7:15 AM. It was fun and nice to start our days in concentration and relaxed! 🧘🏽‍♀️✨🧘🏾‍♂️

Last weekend on Saturday and Sunday we were part of the Craft Mela 2024. The Mela is intended to be a gathering of local craftsmen and children from the Auroville bio-region schools, including outreach school, after-school programs and children from underserved communities. Our students and some different kinds of craftsmen interacted and created craft objects and projects which stimulated hands-on ingenuity, and reconnected the children with local cultural traditions. We had great fun and are already excited for next year!✨

Last Saturday, February 17, 2024, we launched our first international book! With "The International Stories," an initiative that stands for international peace, Thamarai is part of a collaborative storywriting process with the BEY Project in Ireland. Both the Thamarai and the BEY Project stand for equality and full potential, just as they are located in such different parts of the world. The International Stories programme has already happened over the past 30 years with students in over 95 locations around the globe. This initiative is to gain a greater understanding of the partner culture through the medium of an original story. Jean Eisle, a big inspiration, started this project during the Cold War to build a bridge between students so they could understand each other's world better. The book is in two languages, Tamil and English, and includes twenty-two young people who wrote nine stories together. We really enjoyed the exchange with our partner school in Ireland, , and we look forward to collaborating again in the future. We are really proud of our little superstars, and we love to read the stories that they write. Great thanks to Jean and the BEY Project and everybody that made this possible; we had a great time and an amazing launch!🌸✨📖📚💜

Last Sunday, one of our facilitators had a jewellery-making session with the students. While concentrating, everyone chose their own colors and made something special for themselves. We learned a lot and are happy with the results!📿💖🌸

Students made flower arrangements with the Thamarai garden flowers. They look nourished and we are happy to see the different kinds of flowers blooming.

Last Saturday some of our students were part of an electronics workshop in STEMland. It was a great fun and a lot interesting things to learn!🤖✨

Happily celebrated the Pongal festival with lots of fun games in Thamarai.

In the week between Christmas and New year we had our winter camp. After the exam preparations and the exams we went to the Matrimandir, did RTL, meditated, did STEM, learned baking and about menstruation. We also became creative doing pottery and making a big painting for the fence as well as funny Nungu noses. We ended this camp with an amazing talent show as you can see in our previous post. It was a lot of fun for everybody and we are grateful for this happy times.✨💜

On wednesday we got visited by the American University of Paris. Students are coming for two weeks to support different units in Auroville, Thamarai will also be a part of this exchange. We are already excited to work together.😊✨️🪷
