Salangai Puja means Ghungroo Puja. It is usually done when the student has learnt Bharatnatyam for few years.

A student is not allowed to wear their Salangai/Ghungroo and perform till the salangai puja is done. On the auspicious day, the Guru offers the Salangai to the student. Then, the students wear their salangai for the first time and present their half recital.
Considering today's scenario of buying the costume, jewellery and the salangai even before the children start classes, it makes sense to emphasize the value of a salangai puja. It is also important that, in order to be called themselves as a 'Bharatnatyam dancer', the student / artist needs to go through at least some formal study before wearing the Salangai.

In Kalashrie Academy, a student is permitted to perform Salangai Puja on the basis of academic exams and their devotion & dedication in dance practice.
